if i had $400 id rather get the SE K750 or Nokia 6682 though... they both have vasty better cameras and the 6682 has Series60 Symbian supports for things like 3rd party apps and emulators

Nokia 6230i with a 512mb MMC card. Freaking awsome.

Verison! Not bad at all, cell phone is starting to flake out and I have about 8 months left on it. Not the end of the world tho.
just bought motorola razr... rogers cantel
you dont want to get a Sony Ericsson phone, i work for them and the service u get from the call center his horried.... and well lets just say that there is a flaw in some of here phones, and yet they denied all of the facts
I don't know about the other S-E phones, but the W800i is a very good phone other than the dreadful orange color. However, I still prefer my 6230i. That phone is just pure awesomeness, the only phone I'd rather have is the 8800.
The worst imo are Motorolas. For the past 2 years, they have been taking the exact same crappy phone and given it a different number. For the razr, they put it in a different case. It still has the slow as hell OS and the volume buttons on the outside that turn the phone silent while it's in your pocket so you can't hear anyone call you.
I love my Motorola V635 (not sold by US carriers). However it is getting old.
They are quite easy to modify so one can assign different or no functions to the buttons, create/modify menus among other things.
It is a 4 band handset so it works on all GSM systems worldwide. It isn't locked to a carrier.
I also like the engineering menu. One can do cell management, monitor signals, etc.
The best feature is the 1GB memory for pictures, video, music, ...
This is the first Motorola I've owned. Previously, my handsets were all Nokia, but they didn't have a 4 band phone when I was shopping.
My wife has some Korean handset that she hates.
Phonescoop.com is the place to compare/select handsets feature by feature.
If you don't like the styling on the W800 (which I agree with you on, it's horrendous) the K750i is basically exactly the same phone - it doesn't come with the 512MB memory card or the headphones but for the price difference you can get those yourself. Great all round phones, the do all the basics well such as good reception, call quality, syncing etc. but also has a great camera and media facilities - too many phones these days go for fancy features and forget about actually being good as a phone.Quote:

I've never liked Motorola handsets and the Razr seems no different, it's just awful in every area apart from having its sleek form factor. Whereas most phones are happily interfacing with the PC in a matter of seconds, the Razr was not - eventually turned out that although the Razr was happy to have jars transmitted to it via file transfer it would just do nothing once the transfer was completed. We have to use obex push instead to get the stupid device to install the jar...then there's the rather idiotic hardware design that makes it virtually impossible to utilise the decent res screen because it has so little heap memory. Thankfully it seems to be working ok now, so hopefully I won't have anything to do with it for a while.
I'm currently using an HTC Wizard (O2 Xda Mini s) on O2, it's an interesting mix of phone and PDA but I don't feel it pulls it off quite as well as the P9xx series of devices do. Love the keyboard and wi-fi though and it generally works well so it will do me until theh P990 is released.
My 'small' phone is the HTC Tornado (Orange SPV C600) on Vodafone, which mixes in an impressive feature list, particularly the 320x240 screen but irritatingly Orange have stripped wi-fi from it. It also seems to suffer much worse batterylife than its predecessor but on the whole it's a good little device for the size.

I would trust SE phones above all others, my P900 has soldiered on for over two years with heavy use, including the dog stealing it various times. I have quite a few SE phones and they all work well, my only complaint with a recentish model is the K700 which had batterylife that was comparatively weak from what I've come to expect for an SE phone. Never had any trouble getting phones fixed with them either.Quote:

They entered the 'international market' (interesting term for the US) a long time ago, as they've had US variants of most of their common phones. The W810 amogst others (which replaces the W800 mentioned above) is quad band although more of the phones are focusing on new technologies such as 3G rather than backward US networks.

Here in the US SE has just about the same signal quality as Audiovox or Samsung... aka, CRAP.
Motorola, and more notably Nokia, have the best reception of any phones. For people that use phones as mp3 players, cameras, camcorders, flair, dishwashers, washing machines, etc, maybe there are better options. For actual phone use there are few better phones than Motorola or Nokia.
SE is more like every other Sony product -- average quality.
By international, I was refering to a handset that would work worldwide. Not one that was configured for one region of the world.Quote:

Just bought my new phone a coupla days back, it's the Nokia 6280. It has a host of features - Media (2mp camera, Media player, MP3 player, radio, voice recording, BT). It's a 3G phone with too many apps/function to list....it's approved for use on the EGSM 900; and GSM 850, 1800 and 1900; and WCDMA2000 networks.

Congrats on getting a fine piece of equipment. That handset will work just about anyplace except on the US 3G networks (currently limited to 6 cities on the 2100MHz band).
It would be really nice if North America and Europe would coordinate the frequency bands they use. With 3G spreading, it takes 6 bands to travel without carrying 2 handsets.
Just tried out the MP3 player on my Nokia 6280 (with supplied headphones) and I gotta say, the sound surprise the heck outta me. Pretty good, with solid but not overwhelming bass......the radio's good too, though you've gotta have strong signal for stereo reception. Very happy with it actually......:D
Just got a Nokia 1100 hehe, black and white FTW! :D now now, don't you all be laughing at this pre-historic equipment. I just got so annoyed this one time at my 6600, smashed it against the wall... and I feel really bad about that now. So decided to punish myself and I'm not gettin anything better before this one has died on me. (hopefully not by smashing it :( )
