Its amazing that you didn't win the Contest. That is a incredibly clean and sexy MOD!! The Keyboard and Mouse are wonderful additions.
I want to see a Hot Monitor and thats not a bad idea about the sound.. Find your self a Mustang V8 sound for your Startup Wave.. That would rock!!

Holy crap. I'd seen this post from time to time, never looked at it. Today I got the new issue of MaximumPC in the mail and on the final page what do I see? I see Boss FX-57. That is a very well executed mod, job well done. Perhaps you should start a side business, you have the skill too.
I'm a big auto fanatic and usually don't like seeing PCs dressed up like classic cars, but I must say that your's captures the essence of the Boss Mustangs, I'm glad you went with the orange... is it Grabber Orange or another color?

The orange that I used was actually Krylon OSHA orange. OSHA has very particular colors that can be used for specific painting in hazardous environments. Different colors mean different things.
So, when I saw the OSHA orange paint, I knew it was as close as I was going to get to what some call "butterscotch".

...Krylon? You mean that is spray paint? It looks like two stage automotive paint. You must've done a lot of wetsanding to get out all that orange peel.
BTW, can automotive paints, either enamel or two stage acrylic, be used on the type of plastic used in many PC components? I'm thinking about painting my next case, probably a Silverstone TJ-03, blue. I'm leaning towards the blue Nissan uses for the 350Z(possibly the R34 Skyline GTR as well) as the primary color, and using a silver for things like the mobo tray, drive bezels, and perhaps keyboard and mouse. I'd like to hear what you think about using paint such as that on a computer.

Actually, the Krylon paint was *very* forgiving of mistakes.
The surface of the scoop has several "less than perfect" areas, and the Krylon worked very well. On the case, it was primered, sanded down to 800 - 1000 grit for as smooth a surface as possible, then painted with the Krylon. There is no clearcoat on the case, so what you see is what you get! I was very impressed with the results, even if I felt I was cheating a little bit to get the color and finish that I wanted. ;)
Painting on plastic is a little different prep beast than regular metals. Most are sealed, as such a very light scuffing with high grit sandpaper or steel wool (think about making the surface look foggy, not scratched) usually does the trick prior to applying a primer or adhesion promoter.
Here is how I do it.
I scuff it, and then I hit it with a light or dark primer (depending on the top color coat I will be putting on the pieces). If it is a brighter color that needs a lighter base coat to reflect off of, I use a white primer. If it can be a more subdued hue, then grey works best. If I am laying black down, I'll use either grey or black primer. If your plastic has a lot of dings and scuffs in it, you might want to consider either using bondo body filler putty or several layers of high fill, sandable spray primer (if the dings are smaller or less deep). After you have the surface blemish free, then use a final coat of the proper color primer to work best with your color coat. After applying and you have an even color base... run your hand gently over the surface of your primer. if you feel ridges or roughness, bery lightly spot sand with 800-1000 grit paper, and be careful! Don't gouge the surface by pushing too hard.
Once the primer coat is smooth, *then* go after it with the color coats.
If you are painting on a surface that you want to show through (say there was some sort of corporate logo that you wanted visible through the paint), Duplicolor makes a transparent "Adhesion promoter" that I have found very handy. Same process as the prep work above, you just dont sand it after applying. I use this when I am spraying on a transparent candy color, and I want either the logo work, or the grain (in the case of brushed aluminium) to show through.
The paints that you have chosen, IIRC, are actually multi-layer candy clear colors. Deep and vibrant colors would require that you have a white base coat, followed by multiple clear blue layers to achieve the color depth you are looking for. Beautiful if you can pull it off! Good luck!
A cheat for matte silver is spraypaint "chrome". Properly masked, you could get a good matte silver effect. Just keep that in your bag of tricks!

Okay so I might catch a little flack from TD for this but I am putting forth this question for all the folks that have layed eyes on his beauty of a creation.
In my mind going along with the color theme of the FX-57, should TD add an orange Bulgin Vandal switch to the case. I came across it on Performance-PCs on day and mentioned to to TD, and he is hessitant to add it, and I can't blame it, but I think it would add to the case.
So I am proposing this idea to my fellow BOSSS FX-57 fans and see what you all think?

I saw you rig in Maximum PC. Glad to see it was someone from here.
Lupine is still one of my favorite cases that TD has done. The Boss is awesome and TD has done a fine job. I not sure adding more car parts would make it any better. You pretty much nailed the Boss theme and over doing it could mess that up.
