Ah I am taking hits left and right :(
First I don't get any points for a completed WU due to some disk error. Then after completing a tinker on my friggin pII 450 machine it couldn't send it so it's in the queue and probably won't send it until it's done with another WU (maybe 5 days). I could of been in the 1000's by now. :mad:
The way I got one of mine in queue , sent in, instead of waiting was to click on quit and when you start it up again it should try to send in the results again, then continue with the WU it is working on now.Quote:

Just put the -send all flag in a FAH shortcut and see if you can send the WU now instead of waiting. :)
I don't think you need that flag. I've been running with the "- verbosity 9" flag recently, showing more info in the log file. Looks like every 6 hours the client attempts to send completed WU in the queueQuote:

Also, the servers at Stanford can get overloaded sometimes. I had a problem this morning receiving a new WU. My system had been trying for five hours through the night. Ended up getting one though.Quote:

I'm taking whatever they give me. Have the two rigs below running the beta with the advanced methods and SSE flags set. The other machines are running the straight 3.24 graphical mode.
I'd Love to help out with the folding team especially if it is for a worth while cause. Now, having said that,I'm ABSOLUTELY clueless. Do I have to leave a rig running 24/7?....etc etc......If there is a link someone has...or even just a basic explanation..I would be happy to try to help with the team

I just have to rant, sorry. Folding is truly a good thing, and I really wish I knew more about the actual science behind it all and how it is truely applied. However, being a no one in a small town who doesn't really contribute much to society aside from the occasional volunteering at a food bank, I am glad I can do something for the big picture. I am fortuante enough to be able to afford the electricity bill, and have two rigs I can leave up 24/7. So I (we) do what I (we) can. We can't all be doctors and researchers. But it's awesome that we get this chance to contribute. I hope more and more people join, even if we have to bribe them with 'free' avatars, and friendly competition and such. We have all been touched by diseases such as cancer, and AIDS in some manner or another. And some of us will someday be fighting the battle on a personal level, so why not give up a little bit of the dough you manage to scrape out of life and really do something that will matter in the end.
BTW, I guess I am plateauing and the newcomers are all running more rigs than me, as I keep slipping in the ranks. No matter it's doing what I can that matters....

purewire, In my book you and all folders are at the top of the heap regardless of how many or few computers are folding. You are part of it. The competition is fun and addictive, BUT the important thing is we are using are machines in a way that will help all of us in the human race.;)
out of curiosity how much electricity does that use one of the people i asked to join folding@home asked me that.....how much juice does a cpu under full load use vs one that is just idling left on.
Absolutely true. That's the whole basis of the folding project, tens or hundreds of thousands of computers cranking out tens of millions of work units to solve incredibly comlex studies. Every WU gets us all closer to the cures that await!Quote:

and i think the beta 4 is slightly faster than the 3 console, but it is only an increase of 2-5%, or something like that. so i say just stick with what you have as long as it's working (as has been said before: "if it ain't broke...don't fix it").Quote:

if my latest bill is any indication, folding doesn't use noticeably more electricity than a PC just left idling. what really sucks the juice are monitors -- i noticed a big drop when i went from CRT to LCD. without the huge power draw from the monitor, the PC seems to hardly use any juice. so if the computer has a monitor attached to it, just make sure it's set to go into standby.Quote:

Hehe, I got a couple of machines folding that have no monitor, KB, mouse, sound card, or case covers -- only NICs so I can monitor them remotely, and they can up and down their WUs. :DQuote:

hehe. all the rigs i introduced to folding recently are all people's one and only pc and all have monitor shut down while the puter idles.
hopefully around xmas ill hvae a headless beast folding too, all i am going to install on it is Windows, Halo Dedicated Server software, and folding@home.

i've got one "headless" machine (a PII300 :p) that i ssh into to monitor, and another 1600+ almost ready to go, probably by the weekend, if the old retail hsf can take the punishment until i can decide what new one to get. i'm coming for 10th, mystif! :D
my main rig obviously has it's own monitor and peripheral setup, but my other 2 systems share a setup, one of which runs "headless" most of the time....after christmas i'll be adding another machine which will run "headless" (that's a funny term ;) ), but hopefully then i'll have a KVM for the other 3 systems up here.
