Manning is a franchise QB I do believe, didnt he sign some rediculous like $90mil for 9 years or something?
im trying to look his exact salary up, having a hard time. But I did find out he had a $34.5mil signing bonus!

Maybe not manning but Dungy and Wayne for sure. I know Reggie was signed to a one year deal this past season. I can't remember who the others were. Of course there's always the silly rumors Manning wants a trade blah blah blah.
How I understand it in the NFL the franchise tag is only a one year deal where you have to match the highest salary (or someone really close to it) in the league for that position. He did sign a 7 year deal on 04.Quote:

In hindsight, Steve Hutchinson would have been a bargain. :cries
http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/IND/7112670 this explains the franchise QB and how Manning literally is screwing the Colts moneywise
http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/IND/7110670 again, he is their franchise player
Yea teams use the franchise tag when they're really not sure what to do w/ a player and don't want to lose them outright to free agency for that year. The chargers did that last year to brees.
The key is that you have to OFFER a contract with the high salary; they don't have to sign it, but they can't go elsewhere while they are a designated franchise player.Quote:

After a while they offered one anyway, so now everybody's happy.
Which is how it's usually used. Raiders did the same thing to Woodson a few years back.Quote:

Ya right. They won't get Quinn. They have an ex-probowl QB sitting this season out with injury, and a potential future pro bowler playing now. Skill posistions is the last thing they need.
That link is two years old. I'm pretty sure he signed a long term contract since then, and Reggie Wayne is the franchise player this year.Quote:

Who in the heck are you referring to? Who's the future pro bowler...walters? Yea right. And Brooks is not the answer.Quote:
