Radeon 9500 Mod To Radeon 9700

It seems that maybe my card aint 100% i loaded jedi knight 2 and in the sky i get checker board effect.

After that i loaded other games just to see if something happend and all perfect, except for jedi knight and only in the sky. i thern turn the sky on in it and now it looks perfect i just hope this aint gonna be the same when unreal 2, red faction and bhd come out

To flash the bios
just make a bootdisk, get a program called atiflash then restart with floppy in the drive go to the flash folder and type.

atiflash -p 0 (name of bios.bin)

You could also save your bios by typeing
atiflash -s 0 (pick name for bios.bin)

I just got my 9500 128MB. I did the Soft9700 mod. Performance is there, but there are some graphical glitches. It doesn't checkerboard, seems to glitch where textures meet. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=5644149

It isn't oveclocked at all, stock bios. Would a 9700 bios help? Just to reiterate I do not have the checkerboard problem, most are having. Looks like the textures aren't 'sewn' together. Thanks.

Is it just me or do these mods don't yeild as high of score as expected? Do you think the software mods would get more performance?

Those mods that have been sucessful seem that the hardware mod can get up to 370 at the core while the software mod usually gets to around 325? Why is there such a difference?

i dunno...

i'm not sure the core OCed that high will really result in much good though. usually the memory is what holds the core back. also having a core clocked that high causes a lot of heat.
mine is clocked at 317/297. i'm sure i can take the core higher, but my mem cant go higher without artifacting.
(btw, i have the 3.3 infineon which seems to not do as well as the 3.6 hynix weirdly enough :( )

dan: i dont know that a new bios would help. have you tried softmoding, then underclocking the card slightly? or maybe "alternate pixel center"?
even if you underlock the card a little, it'll be much better than a regular 9500's performance...

I just ordered the Saphire 9500 128MB. I'm planning on doing the Software mod. I screwed my 8500 up a while back just messing with the BIOS. Going back to the origial was not enough :(

Well I just got my Sapphire 9500, and applied the soft9700 tweak to it....PERFECT! not one graphical flaw that I can see, and it took my 3dmark from 9826 up to 11670! And I havent even tweaked out my system since reformatting. I'm sure there is still more perfomance to be had. And then on to the overclocking....9700pro speeds, here I come!

I was jumping and throwing my fists like that cat in kero's avatar, especially since I did the hardmod. Those pictures on xbit were deceiving, I wasn't expecting that small of a resistor.

it seems that while none of my games are producing checkerboards/artifacts I do get an extremely small amount of white pixels in the ati pipedream demo. However one thing that puzzles me is that it comes and goes as the viewing angle changes, from one degree it looks fine and then another and there's white pixels and it only happens in one specific area.

oh, i thought in another post you had a 9500pro.(i was confusing you with someone else) nevermind...
anyways, did you try FSAA to see if those white things went away?

well no point in not using 6xaa 16tap af since my lcd only does 1024x768 anyways :D
but yeah I tried ever setting didn't go away, but as long as the games look fine I'm not too worried. That's another topic though every game I have tested so far looks great except for UT. I'm kinda hoping it's in the driver side since swapping different renderers produces different results. anyhoo now I'll be ready for unreal2 and doom3 :)

I just ordered my Radeon 9500 non pro, its a connet3d one.

Should be here in a few days.

I heard you can use software only now to get them running at 9700 levels, anyone tried this without the soldering ?
