I think the 4200 is a good choice. How much of a benefit is anyone seeing from the 9800 right now over the 4200.....slim to none.

I am not believing this, R U Tbirds mysterious 'friend' he keeps talking about???? No wonder..........

Ahem... You can't compare the 4200 with a 9800. :o There is a HUGE difference. Just play around with a system with a ti4200 and then play with a 9800. The 9800 really leaves the 4200 in the dust in all games. Don't get me wrong, the 4200 is a good budget(sp?) card and for below $100 retail, it's a good deal, but the 9800 is a FAR better card. It's so much faster it's not even funny. Especially if you turn up AA/AF, but it's also much faster without that if you for some strange reason don't want to play with them on.Quote:

My god...make it stop! If you haven't done a comparison of the two cards yourself, please BE QUIET! There is a HUGE difference between the cards.Quote:

I went from a Ti4400 to a 9800, the difference is day and night ;) Particularly when you get into AA/AF scenarios, which was unusable on my old Ti4400 at 1024x768. I can play damn near any game out now (with the exception of Halo lol) at 1024x768 with 4xAA/16xAF and still have playable frames.
Oh, Tbird has posted screenshots before, of Splinter Cell.
He was betting his system at the time (4200) could run it @ 1600x1200.
It couldn't, at all.
We even made a benchmark of it. Colossus, vertices and I all ran it, and all stomped Tbirds poor 4200 into the ground.
This was with their 9700 Pros and my 5800 Ultra I believe.
It was pretty funny.
The next day he acted as if nothing had happened.
Similiar to when he was guessing the "new clockspeeds" of the 256mb 9800 Pro.
Funny, the 256mb 9800 Pro has the SAME clockspeeds as the 128mb version, which I tried to tell him 100x.
Guys, this is the secret:
Post a reply to Tbird and tell him to post a screenshot, buy a new card, stop with 3D mark, anything.
Then, get up, go to the nearest wall, and have the same conversation with the wall.
They are in fact, the same thing.

I am just stating an opinion, if you have a problem with that take your bald *** to the highway and play in it.....
i think you mispelled ***, it isn't my *** that is bald, it is my head.
given you made this statement:
"How much of a benefit is anyone seeing from the 9800 right now over the 4200.....slim to none"
it is obvious you have not trully compared both of these cards in your system, and i was pointing that out in a round about way.
besides, i like playing on the highway, how did you know??
also, i have a Ti4400 (ASUS) and a 9800 Pro and i have run both in the system listed in sig, thus the reasoning for my original post questioning your slim to none postage.
baldy
Sure its a better bang for the buck if you never want to play anything in the last 1+ years at nice refreshrate with all the eyecandy enabled and still get a smooth framerate...Quote:

What I was getting at is as of right now the ti4200 is a better bang for the buck deal...
The Radeon 9x00 series offer PLENTY of benefits over the GF4.. I own a GF4 4400.. And I LOVE my 9800Pro over that card...
It is MUCH FASTER and has Better IQ.. Not to mention when you enable AA/AF..
There are plenty of games that take the GF4 4x00 series down to its knees with 1280x1024 and high quality without AA/AF.. I am talking under 20fps.. But with the Radeon 9700/9800 It would not even drop below 55FPS...
So whatever.. You obviously never experienced a REAL video card :)
bldegle2: I really didnt need to know that your butt is not balding! :D

Apologize for what?
If someone is looking for an old card that will not keep up with any new games @ resolutions above 1024x768 on medium to low details, the Ti4200 fits the bill. Look, it was a good card back in the day, but technology gets old...in a hurry. The Ti4200 is a mid level card that is 2 years old. It won't keep up with new games. That's a fact.Quote:
