thanks, I have not played a game after I started folding, didn`t know if I would be stressing my computer to much, by doing so. Will later on I have some catching up to do. :)Quote:

Is it rude for me to ask people to use their SF name as their Folding ID as well? Some already have but some aren't and I cannot tell who to give love to.
EDIT never mind your score doesn't go with you.
I started as MarkO, realised I probably should have gone with Mojo, and then figured I'd just end up with 2 ID's. Forethought would have been a good thing :)Quote:

kaotik, revise that down to about 13 hours give or take...what speed is your proc at for folding? i'm at 2.3ghz...i don't want to run 1.9vcore+ everyday until i'm convinced that it's safe...
well alright! we got all kinds of people now! sweet! welcome to one and all! (just had to get that in here) :)
thanks for all the tips saps. took me a while to figure out exactly what i needed to do, but now i've got myself on the 3.25 beta with the -advmethods and -forceasm. guess i will have to see how that goes for me.
and congratulations for the team on breaking into the 2000 barrier!!! :D go sharky's go!!!
edit - oh...saps...i pretty much copied the link in your sig...hope you don't mind! :)
Don't mind. We might crack that top 1K before the years end after all.
Saps, I am using the 3.25 beta now, before when I first started I wasnt, and yes now I am using forceasm and advmethods.
Speedy, I'm running 2.47GHz for Folding, my temp never goes above 42.5C so I'm not worried.
I play games with folding on, I don't care, works fine for me, lol.
Oh and about the member names thing... people should definitely be using their Sharky name for this...
One thing on the adv and force. Every link I read on them had you put adv first and force second. BTW even with my old generic PSU you I'm getting remarkably stable rails. I'm very tempted to up my clockspeed beyond 2.16Ghz. It appears my old problem was in fact two-fold no pun intended. First my Antec PSU was very much dying. But second it seems clear that I need .05v more to fold than I do for my everyday OC and gaming. Only problem is that means running 2.1v to maintain my 2.5Ghz or dropping down to 2.4Ghz at my old 2.5Ghz vcore. In the end the time difference per WU is probably not titanic. Sure its probably a couple dozen minutes per WU but as I always preach stability is the key. After I finish my next WU I'm probably clock up to say 2.4 and test its stability. I don't wanna do it mid WU because if it crashes I lose credit for the work I'd done on the existing WU and I cannot get it back.
BTW here's the log file on the WU I'm on currently. Again at a mere 2.16Ghz but with the SSE its taking only 4m47sec avg per 1%. That's less than 8Hours per 500point WU. I still have yet to figure out the Mhz to time ratio.

ok im to lazy to read the whole thread to figure out av and for whatever I need so someone PM me with instructions on what I need to do to get up to date and crunching faster, its sad 8 WU and my score sucks
The additions only apply to AMD cpus with SSE. If you got Intel you're already optimized. If you got an AXP or Barton though see page 9 and 10 of this threadQuote:

I was wondering why your WU production stopped after just 1! :p
Don't worry, I'll be folding for BSF again soon. I've only got one rig running right now, but I will have two more up soon. Then I'll be crunchin' WU's for Sharky's and BSF full time. :D
what vcore do you usually run on saps? How long has it been running like that?
I've been folding for the last 2 days at 2.47GHz at 1.96v. I also ran Prime95 for a little bit just for the hell of it. I've been playing games just like normal too. Looks like I'm good to go. :)
how long do you figure that cpu will last at 1.96v? Also, how much of a folding increase would you get from 2.3-2.47, can you make a guess off-hand? Is it worth it?
It will last much longer than you need it to. :)Quote:

Most people think it's voltage that kills CPU's - while that is partly true, the more important factor is temperature variation. 1.96v is really nothing for the chip, but the real damage occurs when it goes from room temperature to 60C, then 40C, then 60C again under full load, etc etc. The expansion and contraction of the die begins to wear the chip down.
well then, maybe i shouldn't....i need this chip for like 3 years until my new system is built...
Oh come on, 3 years is nothing. ;)Quote:

Got a question, I have found out that when I download a packet, that I have to restart my computer and click on my short cut to get sse boost. I checked my program file and it has two cores(FahCore_78 and FahCore_65) in there and I think this is my problem. So which one do I get rid of and which one do I keep.
Before my Antec went bad I would 2.5Ghz on 2.05v and 2.4Ghz on 1.95v which were stable for gaming but apparently I'm going to need 2.1vcore for 2.5 and 2v for 2.4. I'm likely to wait until I get my Antec back from RMA though since this generic one has me a bit worried. I'm plugging along at a very conservative 166x13 right now. After I finish a WU I'll try a 2v at 2.4Ghz run but if I recall correctly when I go that high this generic PSU bails out on the 3.3vQuote:

Make sure that same shortcut with -advmethods and -forceasm target is in your startup folder and you won't have toQuote:

Thanks, I will put it there. Edit: to say it worked.Quote:

I noticed that when I run 3.24 instead of the 3.25 beta, it will say "Extra 3DNow Boost OK"... but when I use the 3.25 it says "Extra SSE Boost OK" but not 3DNow. Is there some way to force 3DNow to work too?Quote:

Oh and Speedy, I figure this CPU will last me easily until I'm done with it, even if I ran it at 2.1v. I will have a new one within one year. But I'm guessing at 2.00v if temps were decent and consistent, the processor would last at least 5 years.
For an AMD cpu the WU time is 15-20% faster using SSE over 3DNow; stick with SSE
So, I'm assuming you can't have 3DNow! and SSE optimizations at the same time?Quote:
