If he's ready to be a good teammate, then I say good for him. He has to know he won't be getting a lot of minutes, but if his personality will allow him to deal with that then it could turn out to be a decent fit. Still a surprising signing, though.
I still feel bad for the Kings fans--basically taking on his salary because Philly needed the money to sign Forsberg.:D To this day I find it shocking that the Flyers found a taker.
Well, yeah.. I'm a huge sharks fan and I'm questioning the JR signing myself. If he actually blends in then it may be a good fit, but if he doesn't then he could be very disruptive to the team. Only time will tell.
On a side note: The new sharks jerseys are ugly as all hell. I'll stick to my 5 old ones thanks...
Ha, yeah I don't think the Edge jerseys are going to be well received by most fans. Maybe they will grow on us. The Philly road jersey isn't half bad, but that seems to be as good as it gets.
Tickets go on sale today at 10am!!! The Flyers visit the Nucks October 10, I'm about to go over to the tix website to try to hook up. They will sell out in minutes, from what I hear.

I tend to agree. I was hoping we would get something in the form of defense considering the loss of Hannan.. Right now I think our defense is a bit young. Don't get me wrong Carle and Vlassic are great young talents but the experience is lacking.Quote:

I loved Smith. Was a blood and guts player who did the dirty work. Never questioned his heart. But Edmonton desperately needed offensive defencemen... that was their major glaring weakness last season. And as much as I liked Smith... he is 32... and Edmonton has Staois who is the same type of player.
Lupul may have good "potential"... but I don't think near as much as Pitkanen has. Both players are still very young and probably have nowhere to go but up as they learn and develop physically.
I'm sure that Philly fans will be happy with both players...
Well, a dman of Pits' calibre is more rare and valuable than a scoring winger for sure. He just needs to grow up some more.
As for Briere, it goes without saying that he'll rack up the points. he's a very slick forward with plenty of moves, and a super-star goal scorer named Simon Gagne to pass to.
That said, he'd better watch his step with the embellishing and flopping around after contact. Flyers fans are a surly bunch, and will really let him have it if he goes and tarnishes the Broad St. reputation for toughness.

Saw two rookies in the lineup at forward, followed by another three 2nd year players at forward. Their farm system is starting to step up...
Sam Gagner (former NHLer Dave Gagner's son), Robert Nilsson (son of former NHLer Kent Nilsson... the player that Gretzky said was the most physically talented player that he ever saw), Marc-Antoine Pouliot, Andrew Cogliano, and some guy that I never heard of before... Kyle Brodziak (drafted in the 7th round in 2003... so he must have REALLY impressed in training camp).
One or two of these players will develop into stars... remember the names.
After years of being a farm system in the old system, and having had to trade guys like Pronger and Smyth last season... there are some rewards being reaped now.
Cogliano and Gagner each had an assist tonight.
I don't know that I smell cup yet... but the future is certainly bright!

Sharks started off good, then basically let the Oilers control the rest of the first and second periods.
I was really impressed with Torry Mitchell, playing in his first NHL game. He had a couple good scoring chances and played a good all around game.
Did you see that goal by Thornton, my goodness. Talk about perfect shot.
I didn't see the game. I just had 30 second updates via ESPN.com. There was less than a minute left and it looked like the Oilers had it in the bag. I was shocked to see that SJ scored with like 11 seconds left.Quote:

Sounds like EDM is starting Garon against the Flyboys tomorrow. It's going to be cool to see Smith and Pits on their new teams.
Lupul looked pretty good in our win vs Calgary yesterday, not as one-dimensional as I heard he would be. I lol'ed, it took Briere all of 3 minutes to score his first as a Flyer--and on Kipprusoff no less.

Sounds like Sanderson (who I thought was washed up) and Pitkanen (who apparently got a lucky goal) came back to haunt Philly.
Back in his prime, Sanderson had the ability to get the odd 45 goal season. He was also supposed to be one of the fastest skaters in the league. But he could just never put it all together with any consistency. I thought that when the Oilers got him in the Pitkanen trade that he was just a "throw in" to the deal. I wasn't even sure that he'd make the team. Even after a good night against Philly... I'm still not predicting a 50 goal season for him though... we'll wait and see how he plays the rest of the season.
Saw that the rookies Gagner and Cogliano each had an assist again. Good for rookies.
And Brodziak?!? A rookie player drafted in the 7th round in 2003 has a goal AND an assist? Where the hell did this guy come from?!? I'd never even heard of him in the Oilers farm system! What's the story with this fool?!?

Man Edmonton has some ridiculous team speed. Our stay at home-type Dmen were having trouble with them, Hatcher and Smith had a pretty bad game.
Sanderson just got lucky, and the other goal was just an empty netter. Pitkanen's goal was actually Knuble knocking it in with his skate.:(
Still, Cogliano looks sick with all that speed, and Gagner already looks like a veteran. That's a lot to look forward to for the Oil.

Speed is one thing that has always been a priority for that team. It's their philosophy. Hasn't always translated into goals (i.e. back in the neutral zone trap era) but it does make them fun to watch.Quote:

Penner looks to already be paying dividends, too. And at least he's still really young.
Speaking of dividends, Briere = worth every penny. He scored one in the second by basically stickhandling through three oilers and roofing it right over Garon. He later made a sweet pass to right to Gagne for another score. Our top line looks dominant, as long as Knuble stops putting it in his own net.:p
