Position: Quarterback

Positives:
Leak probably has the best overall arm in the college game, with the rare gift of being able to put the ball fifty yards downfield on a spot. He, like Notre Dame's Brady Quinn, has above-average athleticism at the quarterback position, but only uses it to emphasize his other abilities as a QB, also much like Quinn. Leak has a natural feel for pressure and where the blitz is coming from, and will adjust what he does in the pocket accordingly.
He's also had to become a strict student of the game, as he's wound up learning three different offenses in four years. 2005 and 2006 saw Urban Meyers' spread offense, but in 2004 he absolutely thrived in a pro-style offense, putting him on the NFL map. His experiences with varied offenses will only help him adjust to the pro game.
I'm not arguing at all about what kind of player he will be. I'm just saying you'd have to be crazy to use a 2nd rounder on him when it would take a MIRACLE for any team to take him even in the 3rd or 4th. Heck, Troy Smith probably dropped a full round just because of his height, and Chris Leak is even shorter than him.Quote:

im not high on him, I just threw his name out...take anyone deemed good in the 2nd and CJ in the first.
something tells me the raiders take either CJ or quinn, i don't know why.... maybe they saw Jamarcus stop at one too many mcdonald's on the way home?

JaMarcus Russell Followed, Spied On By Unknown Team? (4/26 2:19 PT)
The Facts: Russell told reporters Thursday at one point recently an NFL team -- he says he does not know which one -- spied on him for a period of several days and possibly longer by assigning someone to follow him. Russell said a man followed and watched every thing he did and everywhere he went. "I have to admit it was a little strange," Russell said. Reported by SportsLine.com
Analysis: Russell went on to explain an NFL team official anonymously told Russell's uncle and father-like figure, Ray Russell, about the spying and foot pursuits. "I guess teams are going to gather as much information about you as they can," he said. ... According to SportsLine columnist Mike Freeman, Russell was clearly irked at the spying. Freeman went on to suggest there should be some sort of investigation by commissioner Roger Goodell. ... Interesting stuff, but it's hard to imagine the story being of much interest beyond draft day.
Like I said before, even the Raiders themselves don't know who'll they'll take in the first round.
That thing about spying is hilarious, though I guess it makes sense.
Indeed. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if that actually happened.Quote:

Let's just hope that whatever geriatric Al does, it actually helps the team.
Moss now available for a 2nd
I think Moss COULD get back to his old self or close to it with a guy Like Russell slinging the ball, whether or not he wants to remains to be seen...they might just be better off shipping him to Favre for a pic, if they indeed get a 2nd for him they could potentially get a decent receiver who is way way younger and can develop with their new QB...Quote:
Latest Rumor: Randy Moss Available For A Two (4/27 10:18 PT)
The Facts: A league source tells us that the Raiders are shopping receiver Randy Moss for a second-round pick in the 2007 draft. The source believes that Moss can be had for less than that amount. Reported by Profootballtalk.com
Analysis: As PFT editor Mike Florio notes, the problem is that any team that trades Moss will have to pay him a base salary of $9.75 million in 2007, or otherwise work out a new deal. Moss has been linked to the Packers for much of the offseason and PFT reported last night that Green Bay recently has offered a fourth-round pick. That prompted Florio to speculate -- assuming the Raiders want a two and the Packers have offered a four -- a deal likely could get done for a third-rounder. ... We're not holding our breath, but we'll continue to follow the story.
"shipping him to Favre" That tells you all you need to know about Green Bay, heh.
If they get rid of Moss, My guess is that that would be so they can pick up Calvin Johnson and then go QB in the second.Quote:

I cant wait for this to be over with (well, at least the first round)
Now there are rumours of Denver trading a #2 and a #5 to Houston for their #1 (10th). Interesting, the Broncos really want one of those high rounders this year. I wonder why...all we need is some new DL and OL. Oh, and an MLB. Other than those positions the Broncos are set already for next year.
Whatever a teams need is, I don't see how anybody can pass up that top WR prospect (can't remember his name). He just looks like one of those players who is available like once every ten years.
A team like the Raiders has a dire need for QB... but quite realistically... it seems like to me that highly picked QBs only have a sucess rate of like 10%. More often than not... you are going to get a dud. Not only that, but also the much slower learning curve for QBs... *IF* a QB does well, it's usually not until at least year three before they start making an impact. The rare QB that makes an immediate impact are few and far between.
If I had one of the top picks, I'd go for that WR over anyhting else... regardless of need. And then try to fill the need via free agency.
I mean... Trent Green is always available... maybe even Dante Culpepper.
EDIT: Calvin Johnson... that is the WRs name.
I agree that the raiders will take CJ and ship moss off for a high round pick or get an established qb. Guess we'll find out in 18 1/2 hours.Quote:

I don't know what the Raiders cap situations is, but ideally, if I were making the decision... I'd keep Moss and draft CJ. I would then try to sign a decent QB like Green, Culpepper (if he becomes available), or as you mentioned Plummer.Quote:

From what I hear, he is about the closest thing to a guarantee as there is in the NFL... and as I mentioned earlier... drafting a QB usually involves a lot more "missing" than hitting.
Moss has raised a racket in Oakland... but I think that being sucessful, and winning would take care of a lot of that.
And maybe more than anything... they need some decent offensive linemen. The Raiders games that I watched last year were ridiculous... no QB in the world could have even been average behind that sieve of a lone.
Their defense was actually decent.
Moss is gone.
edit: Michael Turner TradedQuote:
Report: Randy Moss Deal Done; Destination Still Unknown (4/27 4:43 PT)
The Facts: There's talk in league circles that the Raiders have a deal in place to trade Moss. However, we don't know yet where he's headed. Or what the Raiders will get in return. Reported by Profootballtalk.com
chargers are gonna burn someone....AJ Smith seems to always make out like a bandit, watch them fanangle a deal and end up with Calvin Johnson and Gaines Adams or some crazy crapQuote:
Report: Chargers Closing In On Michael Turner Trade (4/27 1:37 PT)
The Facts: The Chargers are prepared to Turner in the near future after receiving an acceptable contract offer from another team, ESPN reported on Friday. According to the report, an unidentified team has offered the Chargers a first-round pick in the 2008 draft, and San Diego is willing to accept the deal. Reported by the Nashville Tennessean
since that report is out of nashville it's gonna be for the Titans first rounder, which is #19...now, the cardinals want to move down... they might trade picks with san diego and san diego might end up screwing them too in a deal.
Man... more than the actual talent on the team one cannot stress the often overlooked importance of a good owner and a good GM.
My personal favorite GM was Jimmy Johnson... that guy could find Pro Bowl calibre talent at any pick of the draft... and did!
Dang.Quote:
Johnson is perhaps the top player in the draft, being 6-foot-5, 239 pounds and able to run a 4.35 40.
That is just STUPID!
A big play player in college. Big enough to win jump balls, fights for the ball, and to break tackles. Fast enough to outrun defenders.
That's just ridiculous.
I wonder even if he could play TE?
What a nightmare that would be for opposing safeties and linebackers!
Yep, guys with numbers like that are a matchup problem waiting to happen.Quote:

More On Randy Moss; Packers, Pats Interested (4/27 7:12 PT)
The Facts: Following up on a previous item. ... The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are believed to have talked with the Raiders regarding a trade for Moss, but neither team was willing to give up the asking price -- believed to be something as high as a second-round draft pick in today's draft. "Nothing's been finalized," one team source said Friday. Reported by the San Francisco Chronicle
Analysis: According to Chronicle staffer David White, Raiders HC Lane Kiffin spent part of Friday trying to attract a first-day draft pick in exchange for Moss, who has not backed down from trade demands that began midway through last season. And while they haven't had any luck yet, we'll remind you that NFL Network insider Adam Schefter believes a deal could be consummated this weekend -- assuming owner Al Davis signs off on the deal and the team trading for Moss can restructure his contract. Moss has two years and $20 million remaining on his current deal. ... Stay tuned
didn't even know Darrell Jackson was on the block....must means they are finally ready to recognize that Branch is on their roster, unlike last year.
also, Titans are working on getting Mike WilliamsQuote:
Report: 49ers Closing In On Deal For Darrell Jackson (4/27 8:39 PT)
The Facts: According to a league sources, San Francisco and Seattle are working toward a trade that would send Jackson to the Niners in exchange for one of a fourth-round pick, believed to be the Niners' third selection in the round, No. 124 overall. The Saints and Titans are also believed to be talking with Seattle about Jackson. Reported by ESPN.com
Analysis: According to ESPN.com's Michael Smith, the deal is contingent upon Jackson passing his physical, scheduled for Saturday at the Niners' practice facility. Jackson missed 10 regular-season games in 2005 after undergoing surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee, underwent a second operation on the knee following Seattle's loss in Super Bowl XL and missed the final three regular-season games last season with a turf toe. But in 96 games, including 89 starts, Jackson has 441 receptions for 6,445 yards (14.6-yard average) and 47 touchdowns. ... Stay tuned.
if they are getting rid of williams it means one thing... with the second pick of the 2007 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions choose - out of Georgia Tech, Calvin JohnsonQuote:

The Titans, Bills and Packers are among the teams who've expressed an interest in Turner. Reported by the Nashville Tennessean
Analysis: According to ESPN's report, an unidentified team offered the Chargers a first-round pick in the 2008 draft and San Diego is willing to accept the deal. Tennessean staffer Jim Wyatt, citing sources familiar with the talks, reports the Titans did not offer a first-round pick in next year's draft, but have discussed other options including a swap of first round picks in this year’s draft.
