Sorry if it's already posted but Folding@Home 4.0 came out on the 17th. I just noticed today. And did anyone notice the certificates they give you? http://vspx27.stanford.edu/awards/ce...leman&pts=2406
Gus, I just went around to my machines and guess what they wanted for Christmas? Right, better O/Cs -- hehe -- just squeezed another 600MHz out. :DQuote:

And, I sent an email to Santa from you and told him that you wanted a 71 pt Tinker for your Duron 850.
So who is gonna be the first person to ask Santa for a F@H forum?
RealBeast, the Duron says "BRING IT ON!!!!!!":D
hmm, we should plan that out, on how we want to ask... ;) maybe do that where we all pm someone with ideas and then combine them, and then they ask :DQuote:

RealBeast, you know where Niles, CA is?
Report:
I’ve gotten most of the bugs worked out on the stack. I’ve decided to add hard drives an just run it as a stack of 6 systems for now. Way too many issues with diskless.
It should give me enough out put to start showing my heals to a few people again :p
Sounds awesome... So how did you come around with 5 spare XP3000??? :DQuote:

So what did you enclose the setup in? 5 difference cases? Or are they sitting out on a rack/table as is?
I bought the XP’s, price break was at 5.Quote:

The stack is just that, a stack. The boards will be stacked with every other one inverted so as to save space. PSU will be stacked to one side and I am thinking that the hard drives will need to be in a cage with some sort of cooling. I’ll just set the whole thing on top of the rack when I’m done. That’ll put it right above the switch and keep the new cables to a minimum. It’s starting to look like an electrician’s nightmare around here.
Sounds like a nightmare for that many....Quote:

How do you plan to mount them and how can you invert them without having them falling down or shorting out on each other? Mounting them on a wood plank?
Pics would be awesome after it is complete.. I am too looking into a small farm. about 5-10 desktops.. Havent decided what CPUs I was going to use...
Geez Thermo, I'd like to see pics of this when you're done!
The test XP just turned in it's first unit. It did a p1039 in less than 12 hours, and that included a bunch of shut downs. It's doing a p850 now in about 4m:30 a slice.
Remind me when I post that it's done.Quote:

That is pretty sweet (I think :D) now if you multiply that by 5 :D That is one WU pumping farm! :)Quote:

Are you overclocking at all?
Hmmm, I don't know Niles -- I'm in the Bay Area.Quote:

No, I doubt these PC Chips boards would live long if I did. :( They are a real pice of work, after what it took to get one running smooth on windows, I think they are the reason the diskless nix didn't work. I got some upgraded cooling for them, but I just took it off the test unit, way too loud without a case. The oem cooler is almost silent. And about an inch a half shorter which will help compact the stack.Quote:

I names the first unit Nemesis, so the satck will be Nemesis the Folding Project I guess :D
I thought the guys trying to run me down would like that name.
Thermo:
Sounds like you've been trying to get a Linux diskless setup going there? One main system having the hard disk for the whole stack... We've got one guy on our team that's been working through the initial setup for something like that.
Here's the thread where a couple folks have been jabbering about it. Maybe you can find some useful info there.
I was fooling with it, but there are more issues than I have Nix know how. I'm just going to set it up with disks.Quote:

WOW this sucks... my folding will be taking a hit for awhile, I came home from school to find 8 inches of water/sewage in my basement and bedroom (room with all computers, routers, modems ect.) so far it's taken me 2 days just to get most of my cables disinfected and back together...I'll have pics up soon if someone will host them for me :(
What a ruined christmas... I'm now on the top bunk bed of my 8 year old brothers room, guess I will be up here for about a month or more. We just got around to tearing down some of the dry wall today.
What a bad deal... Ahh!
Sounds about like the foibles of our team member. He's basically using this experience at 'total immersion learning' for Linux.Quote:
