Leadtek Ti 4400

Just got a Leadtek Ti 4400. It's not a bad card, but I was rather amazed at the sheer physical dimensions of the card. It's pretty heavy, and a bit bulky. Also sucks up a lot of voltage, all my voltage lines have dropped by about 0.01V after the installation.

However it overclocks reasonably well, best OC I have gotten out of it is 315/670. Anything more results in a black screen upon playing any game.

Best 3D Mark 2001 SE bench I got was a measily 7250, but that's with a Duron on a SDR based board :

Hopefully there will be more of a jump in performance when I get my 1600+ back from an RMA.

Overall I'm reasonably happy with the purchase, however I can't honestly say it's worth that much more over the MX card I used previously. Sure, I can run Quake 3 at 1600x1200x32 w/ 4X FSAA and 8X anistrophic filtering, as well as Ghost Recon at 1600x1200x32 w/ 2X FSAA, but it doesn't make that much of a difference during gameplay. Can't tell the difference between 50 FPS or 150 FPS either. :|

BTW, on that massive heatsink - it doesn't seem to do the job. While Leadtek were clever enough to use thermal paste on the memory, the heatsink doesn't even really make contact with the memory. :(

Well I could clamp it I guess, but that's just poor craftsmanship on Leadtek's side.

Maybe try removing it and add some arctic silver to it? Also nice oc, its only a bit above ti4600 levels which is pretty good. Here's a tip, over at firingsquad, they put a fan strapped on the back of the leadtek ti4600 and they said it helps so give that a try :).

Thanks for the tip. I've ended up removing the heatsink and redoing the thermal paste, then clamping it so that it has firm contact with the mem sinks. Also strapped an 80mm Sunon to the back of the card, will try overclock it a little more later. :)

Too bad Leadtek didnt clamp it down themselves , I wonder how the Gainward TI4400 OC's...??:confused:

Oh, another thing. Dronez, Gunlok and Winfox all suck majorly. You could basically take the bundled software and add it to your frisbee collection.

What games and utils does the Gainward card come with?

Um around $330 US, if that seems a lot remember I'm in a 3rd world country. ;)

nice oc...i have a pny ti4400. i used the thermalate blue HS on the once side of the card and some cheap radioshack hs on the back side, with that thermal tape stuff. i can push the mem all the way to 690 (the max on the coolbits tweak), it runs stable but there are glitches and it actually drops my 3dmark score!! so far the best score i get is at 310/670...when i push the mem any higher it drops my score a few hundred points.

but at least you got a game bundle, my cd had the reference driverss and dx8 :) but i did get tose snazzzy 3d shutter glasses!!!!!:rolleyes:

Dang...core won't go any higher no matter what. I guess the Ti 4400 cores are reject Ti 4600 cores. :(

Something rather odd, my hardware monitoring doesn't seem to work. I ordered the card with HM, however after installing the icky Winfox program, it says the HM section is not "available". :confused:

I've managed to get to 695 on mem with no artifacting (looks like the heatsink really made a difference), but like you, 3D Mark drops about 500 points. Rather sucky. 675 MHz is about the highest I can get without any performance loss.

Did you try using a 3rd party utility to enable 4X AGP? Something like NVMax?

Yes there is racism here, however usually it comes from both sides. Fortunetly it seems things are going a lot better when it comes to racial discrimination, (no more seperate schooling, etc), but financially our country is really going down the drain. Technologically, heck we don't even get broadband here. :o

I think I'm gonna go for the MSI Geforce4 Ti4400 128mb DDR for $260 at Newegg. Even if it doesn't overclock very well, I'm sure the card is plenty fast enough stock. I've realized overclocking, unless substantial, really isn't neccessary as the results often aren't noticeable. It's a self glorification thing. :)

According to reviews I ve seen ( www.tbreak.com ) the Gainward GF4 TI4400 tops out at 300/630 for OCing :( :(

And without extra clamping or cooling MoM got his Leadtek GF4 Ti4400 to 315/670 which means.....

The New Heavyweight OCing Ti4400 Champion Of the World is Leadtek !! :D
