Regardless... multimedia setups generally are made to localize sounds... so I dunno.
They are compensating for one specific quirck of a home theater setup... what quirk, I don't exactly know. What I do know is that, with these near-field setups, I don't really CARE...
"DTS followed suit, and introduced DTS ES, a 7-channel format. There are 2 varieties of DTS ES. The first is a matrix format, in which the 7th channel is encoded into the left and right surround channels like THX EX. The other format is a discrete 7-channel format. The discrete DTS ES format cannot be decoded in a DIY setup using a pro-logic receiver.
