JKII has no protection on the CD!
You'd think someone as security paranoid as lucas would be running at the very least SD2. But nope notta, I almost couldnt believe it for a while I figured he was running some brand new type of protection. But a couple checks on the boards showed the general feeling is the US version of JK II is protection free.

I'm sure it's not just a feeling, i'm sure you've tested the theory ;)
SOF2 doesnt seem to have any protection either
but then again i bought both :)
CD protection is worthless anyway, and everyone knows why ;)
1) He is rich as hell and made over $400 Million gross profit for himself off Star Wars Episode I
2) He makes too many damn failure Star Wars games to worry and waste time adding extra protection incase it turns out to suck.
3) He did have CD Checks (bypassable lol) but still a "protection" of some sort ;)
4) Didn't expect MP to be huge...it was never planned to be big only the SP.
5) He saved dollars not licensing the $40,000+ SD2 when it can be bypassed with the right burner (just about all) and the right software (dozens) let alone will still be pirated. All in all thats a smart move. Putting protection on a CD is asking for your copy to be pirated beyond fixable. Its always bypassable and already is for every protection. So why bother and waste money? Its like throwing money to the street on something that is useless except for the complete computer illeterate.
PS I did buy my copy aswell but just know as a fact from my friend and *************.com that it doesn't have protections. The rest is just my reasoning and logic.
Also RangerBFK my friend claims SoF2 has a MP CD Key Check so the MP doesn't work.
well because only about 20-30% of PC users acually have/take the time to learn how to defeat such protections (ie buy the right burner not the one dell attaches as part of its deal) as SD2. True around these boards I doubt many people would have much of a problem but I mean comeon this is lucas the man who sues over spoilers ;)
ps I buy my copies also but after having a hell of a time replacing my XCOM CD rom after a recent moving incident I am now making backups of all my games

sof2 does have a cd key needed for online play. I bought it tonight, and it's pretty good.
whats the point of protection? its all cracked. even GTA3, with safedisc v2, has a nice cracked exe out there(actually it comes with the iso download).
Um....anything (it seems) on the Q3 engine (yeah I think its the engine) is very easy to copy. I've never had trouble (I have copied myself a backup yes) making a copy of one.

My point exactly. Nowadays they are wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars securing the game with technology that is already hacked so why waste the money and just let the hackers win? I mean they jack up prices because they have to pay so much more to protect there damn game that we know will be hacked regardless :(. I am sorry but I miss teh $30 games and dont like fronting $40 to $50 to make up for there losses trying to protect stuff. I can tell you not people who download a pirated game but actually uses it, they make less of a money loss then making the stupid protection does. So they just use piracy as an excuse and its pathetic cuz not all of us are rich asses.
Another cost of adding copy protection is the technical support and patches you have to give for drives that have trouble reading those copy protected disks. Remember all those D2 patches Blizzard put out just to make the game work for everyone?
weee... lets protect our cd... hmm wow they cracked it in 5 mins 22 secs... well that was a waste of $$$$.
Surprisingly it was this kind of no-piracy protection that allowed the original Starsiege: Tribes game to become so popular. People who bought this game (I pre-ordered from Sierra) soon found out that they could make copies for there friends and let them play. Once this was discovered the Tribes community got a large boost, which is still running strong today. Maybe because of this JK2 will become even more popular, which means more servers,and more fun.
Go Lucas, Best $60 bucks I've spent in a long time.
