http://www.practicallynetworked.com/
An excellent site to learn about home networking. Has tutorials and some good reviews on home networking equipment.
http://www.linksys.com/

http://www.dslreports.com/
An excellent site to learn about Broadband providers and some network tools.
http://www.speedguide.net/
A site with product reviews, and cable and dsl tweaks.
For Advanced Users:
http://www.networkcomputing.com/
A good news site for upcoming technologies and articles on existing technologies. (Business Technologies).
http://www.cisco.com/
Even if you don't use cisco products there is an excelent database of networking technologies white papers and other documents.
If I think of or Find any new sites I'll post them here later.
Just a few to start, in no particular order:
Practically Networked: A networking site with a range of tutorials, how-to's, and equipment reviews for the home networker.
http://www.practicallynetworked.com
Snort: An open source network intrusion detection system.
http://www.snort.org
Ettercap: A freely downloadable sniffer/interceptor/logger for switched LANs.
http://ettercap.sourceforge.net/
Jorgen Bosman's Applications: A collection of applications written by Jorgen Bosman, including POWEROFF.EXE, a remote shutdown utility for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP.
http://users.pandora.be/jbosman/applications.html
IBM Redbooks: A collection of technical information available for download from IBM at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com. Of particular interest are the general tutorials, like the "TCP/IP Tutorial and Technical Overview" at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/GG243376.html or http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/pubs/pdf...s/gg243376.pdf .
Microsoft Support: A too-often overlooked source of detailed help. You can search on problems or specific errors to find information.
http://support.microsoft.com
EventID.net: Plug your Windows errors into their search feature, and you'll receive a plain English explanation of possible problems as well as links to Microsoft support articles.
http://www.eventid.net
TheThin.Net: Forums, articles, and support for thin-client network computing, including Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix MetaFrame.
http://thethin.net
www.linuxguruz.org
This site has everything for linux firewalls.
Packetstorm -- Web Links is a list of network security links.
www.dslreports.com - web site where you can find a broadband carrier on, and also test your connection in many different ways (speed, quality, security, etc.) also has a small guide on using DrTCP
DrTCP - sorry for not providing a link. This program is a shortcut to the Windows' TCP/IP stack, and just changes values on input. The program is very small, too. :)
Not quite as complete as Snort, but decent for common ports you might need for games, etc.
http://www.iss.net/security_center/a...xploits/Ports/
The IPv6 Page if you are looking for some alternative use. Note: It's very hard to find an IPv6 backbone router to work with.
http://www.ipv6.org/
Part of networking is making it all look nice. Leviton has quickport jacks for pretty much any use you might want. Not to mention they are all modular and that makes it easy to mix and match. I can personally vouch for this, since I have 3 ports in a faceplate, phone, ethernet and cable. :) (Cable to a modem, ethernet to a router, and phone line for the backup. :D)

Also, the sister site Packetstorm Security along with Security Focus Online for virus, exploit and vulnerabillity information.Quote:
just found this site, for windows users that want to network.
http://www.wown1.com/
I don't post very often, i'm more of a lurker, but on this question I must answer.
An absolute must: http://www.freesco.info/freesco/
It's a micro Linux distro setup to function as a router/DHCP/DNS that has a ton of stuff and possibilities, yet it fits on a floppy, can be transfered on FAT32 native disk, and with a few minor changes, does miracles on really old machines. (I'm running it on a 486SX 25 !)
And another interesting one: http://www.zelow.no/floppyfw/
I use these sites for all types of probs,
http://www.ntfaq.com
http://search.winnetmag.com
http://www.bb4.com/
Big Brother network monitor. Keeps an eye out for problems and then sends notifications when problems pop up.
http://jodies.de/ipcalc
An IP range calculator. Web-powered, and downloadable. GNU/GPL. :D
Linux NAT and Firewalls
Linux IP Masquerade HOWTO The best source of info on turning an old computer into a Linux box for NAT / Firewalls / Router. Build your own and get much better performance and security than an off the shelf jobbie.
http://www.tldp.org The Linux Documentation Project has good overall info on Linux, should you have additional questions.
Supplement to Slavic post above.
