cdspeed2000.com maintains a list of speed-tested CD-RW drive performance.
Current burn king is CyberDrive CW099D. Best bang-for-buck has to be the LiteOn LTR-52246S.

the plextor 48x is the best IMO cause of the 4mb buffer. the fastest speed one is the lite-on 52x but only 2mb buffer.
i think that plextor will be coming out with at 52x speed soon
Well, according to MaximumPC, Dec 2002 issue, the Plextor 48x (model pxw4824ta/bps) beat all comers including the 52x competitors in their latest benchmarks.
I could not access that MaximumPC article but all other tests have reported contrarily. Plextors have never been noted for the fastest burners but their write quality is among the best.Quote:

From CDR-Info
In the negative points, the drive couldn't manage to get the first place in many tests, the Mt. Rainier implementation needs improvement and backups of SD2 v2.51.021+ discs will work only in many CD-RW and not CD-ROM drives. In addition 99min written discs are not recongized, we had some problems with already written 24X US-RW media and even C2 error information is supported, its accuracy is low.
One of the main strong points of the PleXWriter PX-W4824A was its very good writing quality either with PoweRec enabled/disabled. Most of the produced CDs had a very low C1 error rate. The supported media list for the 48X (CAV) recording speed is satisfactory and newer firmware plan to support even more as Plextor promised. In case PoweRec is enabled, the drive will automatically select the best writing speed protecting user from writing errors. Disabling the "PoweRec" function will normally produce good discs, with few exceptions.
PleXWriter PX-W4824A IDE CDR-W TEST DATA
The CyberDrive CW099D CD-RW (a rebadged Lite-On with CyberDrive Firmware) posted the fastest time according to CDSpeed2000 but the writing quality was poor.
At this time, I'm inclined to think that the speed posted by the Lite-On LTR-52246S and the tested write quality give it those honors so far.
The fastest one i have ever seen so far is 52x24x52x from LiteOn.

It seems the past problems were with EZ CD Creator (POS, much prefer Nero or for that matter, Win Media, lol) software.

so you are saying that i chose good with my plextor 48x then!:)
btw os-wiz where in stl are you from?
Yes, the Plextor appears to be top dog this week, lol! I've had both a Plextor and a LiteOn, liked both -- no coasters!Quote:

I'm in Maryland Heights.
my gf is from belfontaine heights im going home with her in a couple of weeks for x-mas
Sweeeet, I had the plextor ordered now i'm glad thats what I got. Even if it was a little slower I would rather have reliability.
Not much difference between my real life experiences with the lite on 48-52 and the plextor 48 but the plextor is a little faster and a little better with the coasters. All our plextors keep on going and going with virtualy no problem or issues. I use the plextor 16 and thats not far behind the top ones. Theres only a 1 minute difference between them all and that really doesn't mean anything to me.
The CyberDrive Firmware problem has also been rectified.Quote:

CycleFreak was right on point.
New test results: CD Speed 2000
The performance of the CyberDrive CW099D is really amazing.
It's not only the fastest recorder at the moment but also the fastest reader.
There is no drive at the moment that can extract audio faster than the CyberDrive.
The extraction quality is also excellent.

With a quality score of 82.4 and a perfect C2 accuracy it reaches a place in the Advanced DAE Top 10.
lite-on is the best brand at the moment to have.
OK, CyberDrive this week -- who'll be the next champion, :DQuote:
