Winamp3 = bloatware??
Hey all,
I'm just curious if you have the same impression as I do. I may be a bit behind the game, but I just installed Winamp 3 to replace my older Winamp v2.78. I've noticed that Winamp 2 takes about 3MB RAM while idle and 6MB playing an mp3. Winamp 3 takes 6.5MB RAM while idle and 16MB while playing.
It's nice and all that winamp3 will play videos, but I like a lean & efficient MP3 player. I think Winamp is turning into Windows Meda Player...next thing you know it'll want to take up 1/4 of my screen with a bunch of useless menus and crap.

Dont bother me that much.

I removed winamp3 off my computer in favor for the 2.x series. It's noticeably slower and I wouldn't mind having winamp play movies, but I want it to be a co mpletely seperate program. a tool that does 1 job will always be faster than a tool that does many. Plus I hated having to redo the playlist whenever a movie was played.

to me winamp 2.81 (which is what i use) is great mp3 player. it just does that, play sound files and nothing else.
winamp 3 however is trying too hard to be WMP.... need i say anymore?
-
Winamp 3 can be made to look really sharp with some of the great skins out there for it, but I ditched in favor of 2.81 because I just would rather have a player that maybe doesn't look as cool, but loads up faster and keeps the system running smoother. Besides more than half the time Winamp is covered up anyway on my screen. Until they figure out a way to streamline it a little, I'm sticking with what I have.

2.81 is the best. the last thing i need is bloatware to play mp3s.

The GUI of Winamp 3 is bad IMO. It is so cluttered.
I like Winamp 2.81 better.

I uninstalled winamp III right away. I hated it, and I have been a fan of winamp before it was even very popular. I didn't like the interface, the interaction, the auto fade. I really didn't like anything about it. In the few hours that I used it I found several bugs and unnumberable annoying things.
Still I would choose WINAMP III over media player or real player anyday.

I like Winamp 2.81 better, only prob is the finding cd match thing(CDDB, I think).. took me a bit to find a way to disable it
-
I like CoolPlayer a lot better. It seems to have quality filters and is very simple.

Go winamp 2.61 !!!! :D
been using it since forever and havent had any problems with it
I tried winamp 3, and yeah I agree, it felt a little fat and resource hunger.
-
I agree, I tried Winamp3 and really didn't care for it. Winamp2 spoiled me by doing everything perfectly, having zero load time, and not impeding on the rest of my computer usage by hogging resources.
What reason is there to "upgrade", especially when the new product is inferior?

What I don't get is...why did they turn on their roots? The whole idea behind Winamp originally was a simple, skinnable, easy to use player for MP3 files so you didn't have to bother with Music Match, WMP, or RealPlayer. The 2.xx versions are great and the Winamp3 should be the same, the new skins look awesome but surely they can find a way to get them to be faster. It takes close to 3 or 4 seconds for Winamp3 to start up on my computer, a little longer if I had a lot of apps running. Not to mention the fact that the real reason I got rid of it was for the numerous errors I got relating to the skins from what I read on the winamp site. The program seems really rushed to me. The "full" version they have out seemed more like a beta to me. But that was the first full version release of Winamp3, haven't wanted to try the new one. Is it any different?

What happened was that nullsoft were working on winamp 3, and were not planniong on releasing it fo ra long time. however, AOL Time warner acquired them and wanted a solution to guess who? WMP and real, so they pretty much had the nullsoft ppl at gunpoint to release a pre-beta version of winamp 3 just so they would ahve a new product on the market
Having used winamp before they even had skins, I am sticking with 2.xx. Until Winamp 3 lite comes out, i am going to stick with 2.81

Anything beyond Winamp 2.64 sucks, especially 3.xx.
