I'm thinking about getting a 2.4 GHz processor locally because I would be more likely to get one with the stepping and date code that I want. Specifically, I want a SL6EF because they overclock the best, it seems.
My question is how can I tell it's a SL6EF without openning the box and looking on the processor itself?
The box has a big sticker on it that has the identifier on it. It should end in SL6EF. (this is assuming its a retail box) Good vendors should list the box that it is coming from.Quote:

The SL6EF is a great proc!
But like Tripitz had stated, you can read the code off the retail box. My SL6EF reads like this "BX80532PE2400DSL6EF"

I found one! unfortunatley this SL6EF was hecka expensive and then I had to pay TAX!!! oh, the injustice of person to person transactions.
I'm debating whether or not to open it because it ended up costing me MORE than my 2.53GHz (b0) processor did at newegg! It's from malaysia. I wanted a Costa Rican one, but they didn't have any. I heard that "Q" processors from Malaysia are not as good (or this might be with the SL6RZ only). Is the Q only shown on the processor, or is it also shown somewhere on the product code on the outside of the package?
That Q?? The product code should be on the white peel off sticker on the side of the box.. It should have all the info you wanted :)
Also my SL6EF was made in Malaysia, I dont see anything wrong with it. I overclocked it to 3.5xGhz :) Trying to get higher with my P4PE board now :)

I guess I will install it and try to overclock the $#@% out of it. What kind of cooling are you using and what's your vcore?
Also, here's a stupid question. i've used thermal paste when installing a p4 before, but i've never used the thermal pad on the stock pentium cooler. Do you just put the HSF in place and that's that, or is it more advanced of a process?
I'd be interested to know where you got your info from ? I found that costa cpu's aren't as good as those from Malaysia. I've had 3 cpu's from Malaysia that have been unreal overclockers, with another 2 that have been above average.Quote:

While i've only had two cpu's from costa rica they have both only overclocked to what i would call normal levels.

But it doesn't matter. I can't bring my self to install this processor because it was so damn expensive and I can't really afford it anyway. I think the best thing to do is open it up to check if the pins are all straight and then sell it in a classified add to try to get part of the money i spent on it back. :(

I didn't realize that there were going to be so many other expensese this month. It was just some impulsive OCers buying on my part. The problem is there is *1* retail store in my area that sells CPUs, so naturally the prices will be high.
How does $175 for a SL6EF P4-2.4b with a 1 gram tube of Shin-Etsu G-751 thermal paste (simply the best) sound with free shipping? Sorry mods, I'm not selling it here, I'm asking for advice on how much to sell it for.
$196 is not that bad of a price. mwave sells the 2.4Ghz for $171 I believe it was when I last looked. Plus tax.. So the store version vs. the online version was only about $14 dollars more in the store... Not bad.. I have seen stores selling the 2.4Ghz at $250 plus :)
I would assume since it is opened and used, that the best you might be able to ask is $160 shipped.. But that might be to much.. I dont sell alot of used items, mostly new :)
It is open, so technically I guess it's used. But I've never plugged it in, applied anything to it, or used the HSF and thermal pad with it, so it's kinda new, maybe... I don't know, I guess it all depends on what people will pay for it. I have two main selling points:Quote:

1)shin-etsu g-751 thermal paste. The stuff is the best thermal paste by a healthy margin, and its very rare and usually costs around $10 a pop, plus shipping. I'm running my [email protected] (1.65v)... idling at 31C and maxing at 42C; a full 5 degrees lower at load than Artic Silver III. The paste might be too rare for people to know what it is though. :(
2)the processor is garunteed to be an SL6EF 2.4b with C1 stepping. Buying a processor with other cheaper online retailers doesn't promise this chip.
I'll take some digi-cam pics of the state of things and everything included in the deal and post it in the board's classifieds soon. I don't have the highest hopes because this board is very AMD biased, but we'll see.
That paste is not that good :) It is possible you applied it better then with the AS3 :) The termo properties between the two might give you a .5 degree difference in a extreme rare case :)
I prefer AS3, but I havent tried there new stuff yet :)
