Think the 9800 pro 128mb is enough for Doom 3 on highest detail level?

I've decided to go with the Radeon 9800 pro 128 meg over the 256 meg because mainly of the price difference. I don't think I need a card any faster to run bf1942, ut2k3, doom 3, or mohaa at the fullest detail, high resolution. The 256 meg card is just going to be a few hundred or so more for not much difference or atleast not enough to justify the price jump. That being said, do you think it'll be alright for Doom 3 1280x1024 max detail with some AA and AF? Rest of future system specs are in sig.

1600x1200x32 max details with 4x fsaa and 8x aa should be no trouble at all :D should get you about 50fps too. If you dont want fsaa, youll exceed 100fps :D I should get about 60fps in 1600x1200x32 medium details, no fsaa

Damn it T-bird you moron. What's your obsession with high resolutions? You won't get anywhere close to 60 fps medium detail, 1600x1200 with a tbird with that system. Hell you only get 99 fps in Quake 3.

watch those flames! not allowed! everyone wishes they could run high res, but theyd rather use fsaa or they dont have a nice 21" monitor :( anyway I get 114fps quake3 1600x1200x32 max details on 280/520 clock speeds. Also Im getting a much faster cpu, xp2000 equivelent. My cpu is gonna help a big chunk

I don't see a need for that high a res on even a 21 inch. I'd be happy with 1600x1200.

Tbird... what DX version is Doom III based on?

have you even seen how nice 2048x1536 is? I want more! The first time I played quake3 in 2048, my jaw dropped!


doom3 will use both directX 8 and 9, but directx8 cards will run doom3 just fine

to summarize it, while no one knows for sure, I believe you will pratically be overkill for doom3. This is not a fact, so dont flame me. we shall find out as the release for doom3 approaches
