Morrowind: Should I?

Hey sharky folks,
I'm thinking of getting a new game here soon, and I'm looking for a deep, involving game...not a standard FPS.
I got Neverwinter nights a few months back and loved it...really fun game for what it is.
But now, i'm looking for something even more open-ended. Morrowind certainly looks very pretty, and from what I hear, is pretty darn limitless as far as possibilites with characters, plot, etc go.
So to all you who have played the game: Is it worth the money? Would you recommend it? Or are there better PC RPGs out there??

Yes, Morrowind is almost endless. The game has a central quest, but around that are countless others for various guilds and shops. Before you know it you are involved in the issues of the whole freaking island, which seems like a continent after trying to run around it. The graphics are good, but the thing that pisses me off is the constant loading of new sceneries. Once you figure out that you can steal a whole bunch of stuff, using your cloaking abilities, you are pretty much set for the game. The only thing that kept me from ditching the game real early was the fact that changing your character atributes using cheats was kinda fun... this especially true when you can jump across the whole island in 1 giant leap. If you truly are a RPG junkie you might be able to bring yourself to finish the most massive game of the computer era, Morrowind.

Hahaha. I played it for a good while, but it got boring. Too much walking around, getting from place to place and i'd say 90% of all quests are "Fetch me this from there" which gets SUPER old SUPER fast. The fighting is not great either. IMO, the game has potential, but it just wasn't polished right. Here's my pros and cons:

pros:

Open ended
Lots of gameplay
nice gfx
good plot (well, if you can call it that)
somewhat addicting, until it gets boring

cons:

Too many quests are the exact same thing
takes too long going from place to place (especially tiresome during "fetch me this" quests)
VERY hard to earn a lot of money. You gotta know where to trade to get the money you need, and even then it's a LONG operation.
fighting sucks + gets too easy once you have your character at a high level. No challenge after you've played for a while.
weak spells, too much focus on H2H combat.

Overall grade:
80%

Good game, but some SERIOUS flaws that really take away from the enjoyment. First 10h are fun, but from there it just gets worse and worse as you play more. The addiction will keep you going for a long time, but you gotta be really strong willed to finish this game off. Make the most of it while it lasts because you're most likely not going to finish. :)

I played it...I had fun for a few hours...then eventually it got extremely repetitive and boring...they could've done so much more...I mean there is no talking...which makes you read paragraphs of text...no dynamic events or scripting...while the game is very open ended I found the game rather static after awhile since every character was in the same place...said the same stuff...same with the enemies too...they would always be in the exact same positions...I tried to like it but after awhile it just got really boring...and don't get me started on the quests...

I can't make myself play those types of games anymore.

Its a fun game for a while. I really liked exploring the world and buffing up the character. Unfortunately, the character development process is so ridiculously flawed its not even funny. I tested things for 30 minutes and then restarted. At about level 12, there was nothing in the game that I couldn't easily handle. Money was a joke to get (virtually unlimited). There was no challenge and the "fetch this" quests got annoying, especially when looking for something tiny on a large map. In the end though, I didn't finish it but I had a lot of fun that lasted me for a while. I picked the game up used so I feel like I got my $20 worth :)

So would you guys recommend, say, Baldur's Gate 2 over Morrowind to someone looking for an engrossing RPG adventure??

I would pick BG2 over Morrowind. BG2 is more nitty gritty and really forces you to sometimes be creative in what spells and skills you use, etc. Morrowind, on the other hand, has superior graphics and a horrible combat system. Both games will suck you in for a while, but BG2 you will might actually finish whereas Morrowind will just make you lose interest.

You could always try both. Both games can be bought used at a fairly good price.

BG2 > Morrowind any day. If you don't want to be left with a sour taste in your mouth, pick up BG2 because you might actually finish it instead of getting too bored to continue.

Well, here's a reverse opinion. I own BG, BG2 and Morrowind and I like Morrowind 10x better than either BG game. I've played RPGs since Wizardry I and Morrowind absolutely rocks IMHO. I've been playing it for a week or so now and my interest has yet to wane. I've no interest in cheats.. yet. heh Morrowind is what Dungeon Siege should have been.

I have both games, and I enjoyed both of them immensely. I knew in advance that I would enjoy morrowind, as I loved Daggerfall, and the games are a lot alike. I like the open-endedness of the game, BG2 is a lot more linear. They are both great games in their own right. I would throw one more great, fairly recent RPG in the mix, Wizardry 8. Lots of fun, very immersive, and you can find it new for about 20 bucks. Any of the three will give you weeks of gaming fun.

I like BG 1&2 and Morrowind. I liked Morrowind enough to buy the expansion and will pick up the other one when it comes out as well.

Its okay, but I liked Wizardry 8 better. Also, you might wanna check out Arx Fatalis.

You would be better of playing Fallout, Planescape torment or even Baldurs Gate 2. If you want the greatest story told in an RPG get Planescape torment but all those are alot better than Morrowind (in my opinion) and cost alot less nowadays.

You might aswell get Morrowind, its like £10 over here in the UK so it should be the equivalent in the US, i had BG2, didn't like it,don't know why. You should get Dungeon Siege, although thats bit of a no brainer game, more of a slasher than a RPG,still a great game though. Get all three ,you can get them all realy really cheap now!
