I want to get a new video card soon - this Hercules Prophet II 64MB card has been good to me, but it's getting a little outdated... by 3 years. I am considering buying a 9500Pro (because I don't like my odds w/ the 9500NP + Softmod odds). Should I do this now, or wait and just upgrade my entire system at a later time - or should I select another video card altogether? I managed to play through Enter The Matrix (although laggy)... but I doubt HL2 or Doom3 can be handled on this computer lol.

you will REALLY need to upgrade your system, even if you got a 9500 pro, your cpu wont have the muscle for the AI parts in doom3 anyway and youd probably get like 7k marks if that. A tbird 1GHz and kt333 mobo and a 512mb stick of pc2100 is pretty cheap, also grab a ti200 to tide you over

IMO that would be a POS system. I don't think you would see any kind of noticable performance increase. Save for a little while longer and do a major upgrade of your CPU, motherboard, RAM and video card.
I agree, but thats his call. If he cant wait and hasnt the money for a nf2 mobo or pc3200 ram. he could even get a used xp1700 on a kt333 and 512mb pc2100
ram= $70
mobo= $50
cpu =$40 used
$160 total for those three, thats less than a 9500 pro price and if he gets a 256mb, he will save another $35
The 1700 combo would be better, but I still say save for a little while longer and invest into something a bit more current. If he goes for the wrong upgrade, he will be dissapointed with the results.
that depends on if he can wait how long because there is always something better. the a64's arent lookin too good, the wait could be long before I upgrade, perhaps when amd gets their a64 to 3GHz at 300fsb
I'm going to have to say that the VC upgrade isn't going to accomplish all that much, and agree that you need a complete system overhaul.
Im not sure a 9500 will even run on a 2x AGP system.
Does anyone here know if 9500+ is 1.5v only like the GF4ti and FX?

Look, you gotta go for it. At least for right now, a combo of 1700+/2100+/Barton; nForce2 (8RDA+); 256 of good mem (PC3500); would run about $300, maybe more depending on the processor. It would keep you quite competitive, with the vid card being, I guess the weak link to a small degree. But you'd have plenty of time to save for a 9800 something at a reasonable price.
As u could probably tell here, most of the posts were trying to be honest and give you info on the cheapest way to go that you'd be SATISFIED with.....
True, I guess I could hold off and just upgrade the whole thing later... or start to upgrade parts of it now and upgrade the video at a later point in time. Now I just have to stop spending money on my girlfriend and more on my computer.
