ram on the ti500 overheating?

Get this, I had the ram at 610MHz, no volt mods of course, not a single artifact but 3dmark soon locks up and the ramsinks are too hot to touch! The core shows white dots at 270+ however. I had it at 260/570 so far and the ramsinks are still very hot! I have a big fan blowing on the gpu though. I am going to try underclock the core below 200MHz and clock the ram to 600MHz and see if this helps. update: clocking the core to 199MHz and the ram to 600MHz and running nature resulted in a lockup within 3 seconds, but I saw not a single artifact and the heatsinks didnt have time to get blistering hot. has anyone experenced ram lockups without artifacts?

260/570 is max stable for my Ti-500; anything higher on the mem and it gets artifacts, not sure if my core will go any higher, haven’t tried. At 570 the mem is warm but not hot at all, I have a couple side case fans, one of which blows right across the video card. If you can get yer mem to 600 stable, you're rockin.

The land of 600Mhz memory speed and beyond is a feat on a GF3. You may have found the max overclock on your card if it won't push any farther, even without showing artifacts. A simple lockup after a seemingly good run is a sign you are above or at the card's max. Good Luck ;)

I was just supprised seeing I never had or even heard of a card thatll lock up without first artifacting. Even the core artifacts at 270+ MHz and has never locked up cause I stopped at 275 where it begins to artifact bad. Perhaps Ill volt mod the core, theres a big fan I put sitting on teh core, not the wimpy stock fan. How hard can it be to v mod? Ill grow balls and risk a $60 shipped card, this could be my shot at breaking 12k marks on a ti500 :D

When you break 12k with your Ti500, give me a call and I will pour a bucket of water over my head in amazement. It's not that it's impossible, it's just darn hard on an AMD. Good Luck though.

I think that I read somewhere that mention that 3dmark benchies often favour intel base platforms.

Oh yea but I am determined, I just bought another ti500, this one even comes with tweakmonster sinks and some high end cpu fan on the gpu core! He said his friend had it and it overclocked "very" high and no volt mods were even done. 12k on a ti200 forget it, unless I watercool my cpu and get a fsb of over 200 its not gonna happen. I am up to 11250 at 2.09GHz cpu, 260/570 gpu. If I can get the clocks of my cpu to 2.42GHz at 186fsb and if the new ti500 I get does like 280/600 or higher, its a good shot. I am also going for 13k on my radeon8500 im getting, this is a special 3.3ns edition too :)


My goals so far:

1. 15k on a ti4200
2. 13k on an 8500
3. 12k on a ti500
4. 11k on a ti200
5. 10k on a radeon9000 pro and fx5200
6. 9k on an mx440
7. 6k on an mx420
8. 3k on an mx400(dont really care about geforce2's anymore however, so that goal is of trival importance anyhow.

wow man how the heck are you eating me by 1k marks, mines oced at 205/205 even my stock geforce2 ti at 250/400 gets like 4100 marks, man somethings really wrong with my geforce2 cards. I get good performance on all newer cards though. I dont get it :confused:


yes its 128 bits too, even my mx440 gets me over 8k and my mx420 which is 64 bit ddr, this means it has exactly the same bandwith as the mx400 gets me 4300 marks stock. It eats my 128 bit ddr gf2 ti!

you won't break 13k with an R8500. Forget it.

T-Bird try the 40.52 drivers, I found them to be the best 3D Mark drivers for my GF2.

dont forget, those cards eat ti500s MHz per MHz by a little. my friend says those are more like ti4200s than ti500s anyway. also if I break 11k at 260/570, imagine 320/640 on my radeon8500 dude. Ill get about 11600 once I oc my cpu more on teh ti500. 60MHz more on the core and 70MHz more on the ram, that is 23% higher core clock. It would roughly match a 250/500 ti4200 or ti500 at 360/700+ now I can break 13k easy on a stock ti4200 by now. this is speculation, ill get the card first and find out, one thing for sure, itll eat my ti500 badly. yes sir, ill try teh 40.52 drivers :)

T-Bird, I`m getting my NF7 MB in a day or two and I will see, how much more I can get with my 4200 and I am also looking for Win2K without SP1, because it looks like a lot of people are getting higher scores with it, but I don`t know if I would get that much more with Win2K then I got with W98Se, I got a little more then 250 3D Marks more when I went from xp home to Win98SE.

Thunderbird1GHz you ever think about finding a ti4800se with good ram like 3.3ns then beating good ti4600 overclocks with it(something like 330/740)? Maybe 16k?

my ti4600 does 320/730 and I will break 15k on it once I oc my cpu some more. 16k is out of the question unless I get like 330/770 and get my fsb to 200+ right now I want 15k on my ti4200 but ill probably end at 14500 thats still great :) oh 3.3ns ram is limited to 600MHz, I think thats what my ti4200 I bought comes with, he says ill get about 620MHz on her
