Hi all and thanks in advance. I'll be damned if I can figure out how to set the BIOS to support the following, boot from my SATA HD on the SATA1 port, and still use IDE1 and IDE2. The following configuration allows me to boot from the SATAHD and finds the CDRW on IDE2, but can't find the PATAHD on IDE1:
IDE1 = PATAHD jumpered as Master
IDE2 = CDRW jumpered as Master
SATA1 = SATAHD
BIOS setting:
OnChip Serial ATA = IDE1 Master
The chart in the manual has me dazed and confused :D :eek:
When you set the SATA to IDE1 that disables the IDE1 channel and uses it on the SATA channel instead..
Try one of the other options :D I didnt try booting from my SATA RAID 0 yet.. Since I didnt have time to move it over to a boot drive...
:D Finally figured it out -- taint easy using the mobo manual, shoulda left it in the box the mobo came in :D First, you're right, you have to give up IDE1 or IDE2 or both. Anyway, here's what worked for me; to use the SB (ICH5R) onChip controllers (the preferred method) here one way that worked:Quote:

SATA1 = SATAHD (boot drive)(ICH5R)
IDE2 = CDRW (PCI)
SATA3 = PATAHD w/P-S converter (supplied)(ICH5R)
In BIOS:
Select SATA1/SATAHD as boot channel/device
Enable RAID controller (and use SATA3 or 4 as a non-RAID channel)
Set OnChip Serial ATA = IDE1 Master/Slave
Now, if I can just figure out how to make the BIOS boot from my Floppy drive, all will be well in my world!

did u change motherboards? Last time you were using the P4C800 ???
This week. Yup, ran back to "momma(Abit)" when it seemed like little issues kept coming up with the Asus. Not that I didn't like the mobo, just too many little problems with it.Quote:

Boot order is Floppy, CD, HD. "Report No FDD For OS" = No and "Boot Up Floppy Seek" = Enabled. Can't find anything else in BIOS to set, still baffled :D :eek:Quote:

Floppy shows up in WinXP and I can copy to or from it. I created a MS-DOS boot floppy using WinXP format but the BIOS either says its not a system disk or just ignores it :D
Odd... Is it an old floppy? Sometimes I would create a boot floppy that doesnt work.. I would need to do a complete format and then create a boot disk...
Goto www.bootdisk.com and download one of their images...
No no no... you don't have to give up squat.
Just set it to "Enhanced" and set SATA 1 to be IDE 3 Master and SATA 2 to be IDE 4 Master. Turn RAID off here and also Disable the SATA Raid Controller under "PCI Devices".
That's it. Now you got loads of IDE and everything works fine.
Here's my setup with the IC7-G.
IDE 1 Master - DVD Drive
IDE 2 Master - CD Burner
IDE 3 Master - Raptor HD
IDE 4 MAster - Nothing
Everything is on it's own channel and not neccessary to Slave anything.:)

What no 120GB drive or 200GB drive?
Nope none of that in my main rig. Just 36 gigs.
I install all my apps like Office, macromedia suite, all my other apps, and then my games I play (only 3-4).
My install of all my stuff only takes up 10 gigs. I have about 200 gigs worth of storage between 2 other comps which handles all of my storage. And most of that is on Mirrored Drives for redundancy. I just keep mapped drives to my storage.:) No need to keep all that on my main rig.:)
I surrender, can't find "Enhanced" anywhere! My selections are Auto, Manual, and Disabled. I'm BIOS 10, haven't been able to flash due to not being able to boot from floppy.Quote:

That's your problem then. I had a ton of trouble with Bios 1.0. Why can't you boot from a floppy? Get the latest bios and you will see how easy all of this is.:)
I'd gladly install BIOS Flash 1.6, IF I COULD BOOT FROM FLOPPY! :mad: I've never tried Flashing from CDRW. Do you remember your initial settings under BIOS 1.0 and your floppy worked?Quote:
