Radeon 9800 Pro games stuck at 60hz

Hey, I got an All-In-Wonder Radeon 9800 Pro recently and I've noticed that some of my games start up at a refresh rate of 60Hz. GTA3, GTAVC, MOHAA, and NOLF1 all start up at 60Hz, though other games, Red Faction, Hitman2, NFS5, RA2, Generals, and spider-man the movie are all at 85Hz. I have Vsync off in the ATI properties under ogl and d3d, there are no options in the game to change the refresh rate, so how exactly should I go about fixing this? Some of my friends have said that it's a win2k/xp specific prob. Anybody else have this happen? Thanks!

it is winxp specific, and better yet, there are fixes:D

Hrm, it fixed the prob in GTA3 and GTAVC, but Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Red Faction 2 are still loading up under 60Hz. :( Any ideas what's causing this?


*update* ahh, I had that "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" option unchecked. I checked it and the games work great now. Thanks again man!

You can DL 'Rage3DTweak' from Rage3D.com. Loads of options (o/c, etc..) in addition to refresh fix.

I just downloaded Rage3DTweak yesterday, still getting used to it.

Is it referred to as "refresh fix" or "shimmer fix"?
What heading is it under?

Uninstall Refesh Force. It does not work in all games. RageTweak works in EVERYTHING.

Install Ragetweak then under Advanced Display Properties you should see "Custom Display Modes".

That is where you set your refresh rates. Remove Refresh Force first though and reboot. It sucks compared to RageTweak.:)

hmm, I downloaded Rage3D Tweak, definitely a helpful program. Though one *** game is having problems with all 3rd party refresh rate programs. Enter The Matrix. There's even something on the main site talking about it, their solution is to "not use any 3rd party refresh rate tweakers." hmm, this aspect of WinXP is really starting to annoy me, seeing as I had no problems whatsoever with games on 98se.

I think Cat 3.5 has this feature in it also.

Is ragetweak for ATI cards only or can I use it for any chipset from any manufacturer?

What's the problem specifically? Some games won't start at a refresh rate of anything other than 60Hz such as Hitman 2 (I think) or Battlefield 1942.

However, there are ways around those problems.

the prob is basically certain games start up at a refresh rate of 60hz, and stay at that, regardless of changing the res in game or any other settings. So if I use a 3rd party app to force the refresh rate, all the games work...except for Enter The Matrix, which I guess isn't too bad, since I guess it's a pretty crappy game anyway.

Maybe there is a config file in the "Enter the Matrix" game directory to change that setting.

BF1942 has a config setting where you change to allow refresh rates other than 60Hz, that way you can still use a 3rd party refresh rate application and play the game at say, 100Hz.
