ThermalTake SK6 on an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ HELP!!

I got me a ThermalTake SK6 Copper HSF with a GlobalWin 7K 60mm Fan on top of it. It gives me idle temps of about 42-43C... thats dandy, expect its freaking loud as heck!!! Now, I have a 60 to 80 mm funnel convertor which I put on earlier, and out on an Enermax variable speed fan which I set at 3500 RPM, which supposedly gave out about 40 CFM, however my temps jumped to 51C idle! So now I ask you Sharky members to recommend me a good 60 or 80 mm fan that would do the job fine, keep it at those low temps, and give me some peace and quiet rather then a loud loud screaming sound coming out of my comp that makes it look as if its gonna take off to the moon :D.

I'd invest in a new heatsink. The thermaltake silent boost is REALLY good for the money. When I say really good, I mean it! It's damn near completely silent and it can handle moderate OCing. :)

Well, I do not OC by much, only by 10% or so, and my friend who had the SK6 used to get 35-40C with a XP2200+... altough he had a delta screamer on it.

the SK-6 only did well with 60mm fans that pushed 30-45CFM AKA Delta black lable fans:p

If you want silent and cool, grab a better SLK. the 800 will keep your chip cool and you'll be able to stick a 35-40cfm fan on top:)

he is absolutely right, i got the silent boost on my barton 2500+ (no overclock right now) and it is dead silent and keeps my cpu at 35c idle and 38c load... the thing is excellent... makes me want to buy a tornado and see what it could do with a high cmf fan. it is well worth the money, i know i am not sorry. by the way it is $26 at www.svc.com ,but i am not sure what it would come to with shipping.

A HA! But he does have a choice! Vantec Aeroflow for $30. Nice cooling, uberquiet, uberefficient TMD fan. In fact, svc.com has a TMD fan adapter for the SK-6... I'm using one right now. My temps are around 47C... and silent.

(although I am getting an SLK800 for the barton)

Well, I'm too lazt (and it's too dark) to post my own... so I'll post a pic from Thermalright. For some reason SVC doesn't have it anymore... even though I saw them laying around last week (at their office).

If you already have a good 80mm fan, why not just get the SK7? It's lots less expensive and does an awesome job keeping my OC'd 1700+ in the mid 30s. I researched the Thermalright HS and although the SLK line is superior, the cost to performance ratio did not justify the expense. I got mine from Sidewinder Computers and its just $19.95 right now. They are also blowing out the AX-7 for 13.95 and this HS actually outperforms the SK7 with lower speed fans. Check it out.

The SK-7 is a great deal for the money, though you will want a good fan(40+cfms) on it. If you'd rather keep it quiet, the AX-7 will do fine as well.
