can some one comfort me?

well my excitement for my 2500+(slk900-tornado)/9800pro AIW/1gig pc3500 on its way has been spoiled my roomate who just got a AMD-3200 64bit/512MB pc3200/fx5900 ultra :eek: :( :mad:

it may be foolish but there is a competitive atmosphere in this house of eight regarding who has the best stuff; especially pc-related stuff [i guess the same as it is on these boards]

can someone please comfort me by saying that i wont be able to "see" a difference in speed in games/real world apps with my barton [to be OC'd] versus his stock 3200 a64?

Won't be that much different, and besides he bought a 5900 ultra and you got a 9800 pro! IMO he wasted money, as they are way too expensive for the marginal performance gain from them (A-64).

ummmm, i would rather have the 9800pro, but with why does it even matter? when you all have parts like that who cares if one is better than the other, if it is by just a little bit? i think the contest should be who has the best rig for the cheapest, you all are wasting your money when you could be doing other stuff much more worth the money.

So start up a server of your favorite FPS and open up a can whoop @ss on the all of them. That's where it counts, not what's under the hood. A good player with 60 fps will kick the crap out of a poor player with 200 fps.

instead of competing who has the better hardware, instead who knows more about hardware.

I hate it when people say they have a better computer (even if its true) and not knowing whats inside or the limits about it

just to let you guys know i built my first computer when i was 60-yes 60 and it posted 1st time and i have a form of ms which left me handcapped. you can do anything you want to do. i am now 62 and modding my first case. when that is done i am going for o/c. i agree with you man--they should all quit whining & get on with it. by the way i was not whining above-simply stating facts LOL :D

Wow, vairox, we have the same core componenets. You needed 1.675v to get the 2500+ to 3200+ speeds? Mine makes it just fine at default.

Eon, he got ripped off. It doesn't take much to get the new Barton steppings to 3200+. I have my 2500+ running at 3200+ with retail cooling, and it stays below 43C at all times. These are some good chips. So overclock your and you basically have a comparable system.

The way I see it is this guy wasted a couple hundred dollars on a CPU that he didn't need, and a video card that is not worth its price. I suggest overclocking your CPU and then blowing him away (maybe), who will feel like an idiot then. Whatever the case, you walked away with a couple hundred extra bucks, something to feel good about.

inwincur - yeah, it would boot at 1.65 but reset after a little bit of prime 95, im starting to think it was the retail cooler, ive switched to a godly loud coolermaster with an 80mmfan i should try and drop the voltage and test it out again...u dig the mobo? i do.
