Question about Rockstar Entertainment - makers of Max, GTA, etc..

I am confused about who's actually responsible for the games itself. Is Rockstar the quivalent of Electronic Sports who foot the bill for production of Medal of Honor from 2015 Studios for whom developed it? I see in the intros, Rockstar and Remedy, which I assume is the company that developed Max Payne. Please clear the confusion up for me.

Also, they've released some real duds. GTA is good, but it's fun value thins out real fast. Then there was that other game that had you run around beating people up. That was crap, IMO.

there's also 2 different divisions of rockstar I believe

Rockstar is a Take Two Interactive subsidiary. And Rockstar (also know as Rockstar North) developed the GTA series and everything else

Rockstar published Max payne 2, and remdey made the max series. I think take-2 published the first max

Take 2 published the PC version of the original Max, while Rockstar handled the console versions.

Is Rockstar a developer too? Who actually programmed the game?

Rockstar is the developer of the GTA series, and Remedy are the developers of the Max Payne games. Rockstar publish both games. Im pretty sure that R* are based in the UK and its the UK deivision that made the GTA games. I have no idea about san fran R*, I think they are just the US publisher.

Actually, wasnt GTA developed in Sweden?

I just read on Remedy's site that the rights to Max Payne was sold to Take2. If Take2 decides to pursue the saga with an inept developer it could be bad. Some of the developers at Remedy post at 3drealms.com which to the best of my knowledge has connections with Remedy; and at any rate they (Remedy) said they may want to pursue a different path. :(

No. Rockstar games and Rockstar North are british based development houses.

Don't they share resources/development kits? Kinda like Bioware and BlackIsle showing up on each others games cause they share the same engine.

They said prior to the launch of the first MP, a deal was struck with Miramax for a movie, but 2+ years and still nothing more than rumours? odd.
