GeForce 2 MX good for the money??

I got alot of money for christmas, but I was going to upgrade my computer. I got a new 40GB HDD for christmas so no need for bigger HDD, I got 128MB ram, celeron 466MHz o/c 525MHz I'm thinking I'll wait for the price of the P3 to down some more, and then the video card a old voodoo3 3000AGP, and that was IT!!. I'm getting a new video card, so I went to the computer store and looked at the prices of there video cards they had. I was look for a GeForce card. I found the GeForce 256 and the 2 MX.The 256 was $250 and the 2 MX
was $150.

So, is the 2 MX good for the money??
I only have $80 right now but I'm selling my voodoo.

yes, GeForce 2 MX is the budget graphics card of choice, the best being the Hercules and the worst being the Creative MX DDR, everything else is about the same

dude the cheapest GF2 GTS on pricewatch is $163 so i dont know what your talkin about.............in contrast the cheapest MX is $86

Keep your vodoo 3 3000 it's not a bad card almost as good as the geforce 2 MX .
Upgrade your ram to 256, that's your best
bet for better performance!

the V3 3000 is not nearly as good as the MX, tests have shows that the V4 was the equivlant of a 3000 in terms of speed, just with better and more modern features. Tests also showed that the MX beat the hell outta the V4, so in other terms V3 dosent stand a chaince against MX

So, I think if I got a card with 32MB of ram and is faster it should be better.

P.S. anybody know how to use a game to benchmark a computer and get stuff like the FPS of the computer with that game

I'd say stick with your voodoo3 3000 for now. I have a P3 500 with a Visiontek Geforce2 MX card and can't tell much of a difference between that and my older TNT2 Ultra. Maybe by a few FPS, but not much, which makes me think the performance if CPU limited at this point.

If I were you, I'd save up and then buy a new CPU and Video card at the same time, and make sure you pair them well. I'd think a Geforce2 MX would be a bit overkill for your CPU, but I bought mine for $80, so it was a pretty even trade from my TNT2 Ultra. If you could sell your Voodoo3 for $60 or so, then it'd be a $20 upgrade. When you upgrade your CPU in the future, you'll notice a change, but currently I don't think you'd see much of a difference, as was the case with mine.

That's just my experience.

Oh, and here are some good links for buying hardware...stay away from stores for bigger purchases like this unless they have a really good deal.

yeah go eith MX but get the 32MB version. I have on my old P2-400 128MBPC-100 ram and i play q3a @ 1152x1024? x16 and get around 50FPS which is very good

My other system has a Pentium3 500MHz and I used to run it with a voodoo2 ... I upgraded to a Geforce 2 GTS 32MB DDR and noticed ZERO difference (ok maybe 5% here and there). That's because I'd need a faster processor to max out the GTS. Now, granted, I HAD to upgrade because the fan on my voodoo was dead, plus if I ever get a faster processor on that machine it will be nice to have a half-decent video card to match it up with.

At any rate it gives me bragging rights because now I have two GeForce2s. On my new machine I have an 1100MHz Tbird and it completely maxes out my Geforce2 Ultra 64MB.

Today I ran quake 3 arena in 2048x1536 w/32-bit color, maximum detail. 30fps baby! Always wanted to do that https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif

Right, getting off topic, I'd either buy a faster processor and then video card after or buy 128 megs more RAM. You'll definitely notice a difference with more RAM. It doesn't translate directly into FPS but it does translate into stability and faster load times and less jitters when playing action packed games (in my experience going from 64 to 192 on my old machine.)

because it uses 64-bit DDR memory as opposed to the conventional 128-bit SDR memory, which in turn means higher latency, slower performance and lower overclocking potential
