Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !
Im surprised by the amount they obtained in settlements from such a low number of lawsuits.
The lesson here though, if you run an IT business, dont be a dumbass and use pirated software or distribute it.
Death to pirates, aaarrrrrrrrhhh!

Sorry, couldnt resist :p
NetFX Pro, one of the companies there, is right here in my town. I was wondering why they suddenly disappeared recently. :D
I actually ran into them through a quote war for a client. lol. Good for them.
There were 4 companies listed in the Tampa metro area. Good riddance!
I turned in one of my clients who was running (IIRC) 5 unlicensed copies and 10 licensed copies of AutoCad. The 5 copies were hidden on a classified project. It cost them over $100G's. The audit team walked in with a deputy and a warrant. They settled on the spot to avoid litigation that would have cost them big buck federal contracts. What they did was stupid. A few heads rolled, but I remained as their consultant until I retired.
Hey, I've reported my housemate to the MPAA because I get sick and tired of the Internet being shitty because he's sucking down all the bandwidth pirating TV instead of just paying for cable.
Good for you. Just don't share the same IP address with your housemate. Switch to 3G wireless.
Actually, I did it in reverse. I had 3G until the 5GB cap, then I had to switch to his Internet, which isn't terrible, but since it is damn near saturated with BitTorrent traffic 24/7, I actually leave in the morning and go to a coffee shop to get work done.
And they think I'm weird because I damn near refuse to sit down and watch movies and TV like they do every night. I told them it was because I wasn't really into watching pirated material and it made me feel bad. They looked at me like I was crazy. I think I watched on thing there when I first moved in, but it's like every night now.
I am, without a doubt, the poorest one in the house, and the only one who still pays for media. Oh well. I guess I still have some morals. I even *gasp* buy my software. He's the CTO of a tech company with a 6 figure income and won't pay for a legitimate version of Windows. GO FIGURE.
I believe he lives in a "high cost" area where a decent place to live costs upward of $3k per month plus utilities. BTDT
yarrrr that b some high numbers
I'm too lazy to pirate.
