- Look for me playing TFC as the mad demoman Adisharr :)
The latest Unreal engine looks utterly superb. I've been waiting for screenshots of the new terrain and character animation for ages so when these showed up it felt like Christmas. :) UT 2 isn't officially on the cards currently (as in they haven't announced it yet), although Epic are doing some kind of new Unreal game judging by the comments in that article. I mean, with visuals like that, how could they not. :)

UT runs actually very well on my p2 400 64mb ram + TNT, but i doubt that would... which brings up an interesting point: is it worth spending over let's say 600$ (well canadian) to be able to play a single game? I'm not so sure.. (i dont mean to bring up the console vs. pc thing again, but..) I could buy any console that i want, and a hell of alot of games for that amount. Sure they wouldnt be using the Unreal 2 engine, but is that such a loss?
Hmm..

Never knock on Death's door. Ring the bell and run away. Death really hates that.
UT2 looks really awesome, I can't wait till it comes out!
Ill pay.Quote:

We should mention that you dont really NEED to spend more cash on a better video card to play. You may need more cash to play it in 32 bit at 1600 x 1200 res but ordinary play is still possible.

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
I think it will at least require a T&L unit.
Just looked at those terrain shots...I think I'm in love...I mean, U9 looked great (but the engine itself was not exactly, er, good) but this...whooooo...
The new terrain shots look good. I wonder if they will be able to compete with the TRIBES/TRIBES 2 terrain, which in my opinion is amazing.
Man that is awesome. I gotta buy a radeon now.
I'm assuming that these upgrades will be available in "The Game of The Year Edition", but I really couldn't find a definitive answer to that question anywhere. I'll get it fer sure.
Unreal engine makes me want to set myself on fire right now. I get faster framerates in it with my old sli voodoo2s than I do with my new geforce2 mx.
I'm glad they're leaving the 3dfx centricity though.
My friend got the opengl drivers to work with his geforce 1, anyone else have good experiences with those? He manages to eek 70+ fps out of Deus Ex in 1024x768 with that, while I chug at 15 in d3d.
I use openGL with Unreal Tournament with a Geforce 2 MX. Works great but has a little bit of a problem displaying alternate fire rocket's. Small price to pay for and extra 40-50 fps tho. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gifQuote:

How do you do that then?Quote:

Hmm. The terrain in Tribes 2 is smooth but seemingly still a bit sparse of foliage and other stuff to make the terrain more interested (although it does include *some* trees). On the other hand, the Unreal terrain stuff seems to be able to cope with something verging on a freakin' sparse forest, yet it doesn't appear to stretch as far as the Tribes terrain - for instance the edges of the snowy map are just a skybox with a mountain range image, so it might only be able to do smaller areas of terrain (possibly limited by normal Unreal engine maximum map size). Guess we'll have to wait and see. both looks pretty spiffy for different reasons though. :)Quote:

Is that usin the modified opengl.dll that was released by someone from Loki? I followed those instructions to the letter on a clean UT install and couldn't get it to work. It kept dumping me into software mode instead.Quote:

I was wondering that about the Unreal engine if that was just like a box at the edge. I do agree that the Tribes terrain could be a little more interesting https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif Why do you need trees when you can just plant some turrets to liven things up. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif I still think that those pics are amazing for the Unreal engine and hopefully we can see some of that utilized in a game soon. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif
Ill look up the link when i get my computer fully built. Right now im stuck surfing the net at school cause my dad doesnt have a comp.
its hell to get used to the internet and gaming on it then be taken away from it cold turkey...
those screen shots blew me away.
life is good.
Nah, GOTYE (I don't even want to try and say that abreviation) is just the latest UT with the Bonus Pack, the Infiltration mod (I think that's it) and Chaos UT.Quote:

It's a little more complex than that (I can go into sky zones and fake backdrops but I'd bore you to death ;) ) but yeah, it is essentially a box around the outside of a level, although it can be any shape really. That's what you get in regular Unreal levels and it also seems to be the case with the terrain engine, meaning it can't stretch for huge distances like I think the Tribes terrain can (although I could be wrong, never played much Tribes to be honest).Quote:

Thanks for clearing that up! I was going to say that if that wasnt like a skybox around those maps then DAMN that would be amazing. Oh well, someday soon I hope. I was just wondering becuase I know in Tribes it goes on forever, well, not forever there is an end to the map but its a good distance out.Quote:
