HHHOOOORRRRAAAAHHHH!!! Sony have just sent me a letter saying my PS2 will be here by 1st december. For those who don't know sony introduced a pre-order scheme in the U.K on a first come first served basis. And mine will be here within a week of launch. I'm so happy i could cry, but i wont cus that would be silly so i'm going to dance like a ballerina instead!
Don't get too happy just yet..... My friend got his, and it sucks...... BIG TIME. He feels like he has been robbed, would have been better sticking with his Dreamcast and just buying some more games. (His words, not mine). I have played it too, and it is seriously disapointing, and the DVD playback sucks ***.

I've played SSX snowboarding, got Tekken Tag and got a demo of ISS its fantastic. How can u say its crap. The DVD also is great y do u think that its so bad.

Well the quality of the DVD playback is actually very good, though the controls leave something to be desired (even with the third-party remotes available).
As for the games, I think they are of pretty good quality for first generation games. Do you remember what the first PSX games looked like in comparison to the newest ones? Some of the current PS2 games look better than others, furthermore, just as some PC games look better than others.
Take a look a DOA2, for example, which is one of the few games I've seen that are actually on DVD's (most are on CD's, I have found). It has graphics as good as I've seen on any console game and in most arcade games.
All in all, I am pleased with my PS2 and think most people will be. The trick will be getting one in a shortage that no one is overly pleased about... with the exception, perhaps, of thosw who are taking advantage of people who are exceedingly eager to get one at any cost.

If you are looking only at the games currently available, the Dreamcast is very comparable. If you look down the road, even as soon as January when Gran Turismo 3 hits the shelves, the Dreamcast will be left behind. Shall we take a gander at the numbers???Quote:

Don't forget the upgradability of the PS2, it was built for the future, not today. Firewire, 2 USB ports, optical audio connection, component video, S-video, 8MB memory cards, future Broadband, talks of hard drives, and on and on....
And some will say, woopee, only 300 MHz. Many don't realize that the 128-bit Emotion Engine w/ 32 RDRAM has a floating point performance of 6.2 GFLOPS!!! My friends, a PIII 450 can perform a bit over .5 GFLOPS, 12x less..........
And if you think the DVD is not as good as the typical $300 DVD player, check the specs, I challenge you to find a difference. Sure it doesn't have the bells and whistles but it works great with a controller such as the Saitek, the one I use. Now the $3000 DVD player would probably be better but.........
And don't even bash the CD player, it reads every bit of info provided on todays CDs...nothing is left behind. If you want to blame the sound quality, it is probably your receiver or speakers that are the issue, not the CD player.

Well Dreamcast has been around longer so its games are better. Give PS2 some time and it will have some cool games.

Seems like the only people sticking up for the PS2 are the people who own one and don't want to advertise how they have put their money to shame.

Also the USB and firewire ports do not work correctly according to a few mags. If you plan on making the PS2 your main multimedia center your in for a surprise. Clever Sony marketing..

Christmas is over and now i have the full versions of both SSX and dead or alive. In reply to alphaash the price tag is huge but the game are almost up to the standard of P.C and i have 7 words for you. Metal Gear Solid two:Sons of liberty. has anyone seen this video, it is the best preview to a game ever! Even mediocre consoles have survived on the quality of the gaming titles.....the games are what make the companys money, not the consoles. Microsoft has the best of the best (Sir) lined up and currently making the games of the future for the X-Box. They have the software industry's backing and the game programers have already praised the operating system for it's ease to program for, unlike the much more difficult PS2 which has programmers waking late at night, screaming at the top of their lungs "Damn you Sony!!!".....Ok, so I made that up, PS2 programmers don't have time to sleep...:]
6. From what I have read, X-Box is not exactly a pure Microsoft, executive know-nothing-about-gaming, force feeding, mass consumer mo-op-ly creating, jam it down your throat with useless resource absorbing bells and whistles, gaming platform....It is a seperate unit created by some brave, brave individuals who could have very easily lost their job in the fight to keep X-Box from becoming a MS mini PC...Yes it is a MS product, but no it won't be running Word and it isn't going to be named "Big Bills Gaming Box!"......The name itself scares me...;]

Nintendo can throw the Gamecube in the market for $150, possibly $100. I used to have respect for Sony Computer Entertainment with their PlayStation, it was a respectable system that did quite a bit for the gaming industry (Like let some people create a game collection of one hundred games for a mere $200.) Anyways, the PlayStation2 seriously is a disappointment, I don't think the problems lies so much in the hardware as it does in the games being made for it. It seems as if developers were unable to truly use the system's "power" and therefore the people shelling out $500-$1000 bucks for this system, are, in my opinion, idiotic. Why would you break the bank for a system that really doesn't have any games that truly warrant one's purchasing it. I truly feel that Madden NFL 2001 was/is the best game at this point for the system, and the sad thing is, NFL 2K1 for the Dreamcast is just as good, if not, better than this game. I'm riding with XBox, even though I hate Microsoft, just cause its got all my favorite developers, and its got more than enough power and ease of development, we should be seeing some good games for the platform. Now can somebody guide me to the ring, cause I'm waiting for WWF Raw is War for the XBox.

Yeah- the ps2 duznt have 2 many good games yet but look to the end of the year- metal gear solid 2, z.o.e, oni, resi.code veronica complete, silent hill 2, the bouncer, cool boarders 2001, ffX + ffXI and many more great games r gonna b released.the ps2 will be setting bvoundries by the end of this year too with tomb raiders makers capcom saying they r goonna make the in game graphix as good as ff8's FMV's-i think they cud do it. And b.s that no good peripheralswill cum out- there is a mem card 8mbs that can b connected to your p.c to empty save files onto your pc thus meaning u no longer have to traipse out to the shops wen me full. this card also means downloadable new add-ons and levelscan b put on ure p.c- then mem card- tehgen played.my ps2 arrived on 23rd of nov https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/4.gif so oim cool with my pre order.

I have a problem with this one. It's true that Microsoft has big marketing bucks and brand recognition, but that brand recognition is in the PC market, not the console market. I'm leery of any 1st generation entry into any market until the product has proven itself, and X-Box is no different. Its going to have to show me how good it is, rather than just having some technical specs to flash around.Quote:

In response to the rest of the topic of PS2 (which i started) i would like to say that i love my PS2 to bits and will play it forever and a day. But i still prefer my p.c over it. Why. My favourite genre is FPS, and while you can plug an Keyboard and mouse into the PS2, its not as good to play, also if you compare the screenshots of UT on the p.c vs UT on the next generation console then its not hard to see that the p.c although said to be ugly by some console magazines is still miles ahead in the chase for the best/most beutiful games in the world. Also Ps2 lacks imagination all the games bar a few are all sequels, but with the p.c you get imagination put into games, eg. typing of the dead and Stupid Invaders,Deus Ex, NOLF, Half-life etc the list goes on, the only true original game that i've enjoyed on the ps2 is SSX. So although i love my Ps2 it will never beat the might of my p.c.
Also on the topic of the x-box, i think that it will do well, mainly because anything made by Microsoft always does criminally well, i'm not critising them, well i am but not really,i will get an x-box if it looks good and has good quality in every department. I am happy with what i've got.
