The Wheel of Time...

Hey does anyone know what ever happened to the Wheel of Time FPS? I've never once seen it at any software store in my area (Central Vally, CA). Then again, who knows if anyone even knows what the Wheel of Time is. If anyone knows anything, let me know. Thanks...

That is the one that used the Unreal engine correct? I remember playing a demo of it and I have seen it at BestBuy once or twice. I didn't get into enough to ever buy it so couldn't say how it turned out.

I tried it out, but I wasn't very impressed. Nice idea, poor execution. If you really want it, you can probably find it at amazon or ebworld.

Wheel of Time was marred by a lack of proper controls, pretty stupid weaponary, and no duck key. It was really difficult in some places too (not that this is a bad thing.) On the plus side, the level design was awesome, and the graphics were really nice looking.

However, if I could remake my purchasing decision, I'd have bought something else. WoT was simply not worth it. It was inititially interesting, but lost that later in the game, with what became repetitive blasting action. Sure, you get "some" team control later, but it's not enough to save this title from a poor overall feeling.

If you liked the book series you'll hate the game cause they butchered the story; I hated it.

I thought WoT was a great FPS. I had not read any of the books prior to playing, however, I did like the story of the game so much that I have read all the books and am eagerly awaiting the next installment of the greatest fantasy series I've ever read. The game had great graphics, great effects, great story, great gameplay, awesome level design and a great atmosphere. The level when you have to explor Shadar Logoth was one of the creepiest moments in gaming I've experienced. The multiplayer was also great and very overlooked.

I played WoT for 5 minutes... awkward and ugh ... bangs head i wanna forget, i wanna...

Well, if they butchered the story then I probably won't get it after all. Form what I've seen, it looks like they had a great chance at making a really good game...but ended up screwing it up. At least for those of us who read the books...ah...Wheel of Time is one of the greatest series ever IMO. Of course it doesn't match up to The Lord of The Rings, but then again, nothing could.

A little OT...anyone know when the next WoT book is due out?

I agree. While both are great, WoT has the edge over Lord of the Rings. Mainly due to the vast amount of detail Jordan fits in.

Dang...have to wait another year before the next one comes out...*sniff*. I'm not sure about WoT beating out LoTR because of the fact that Tolkien basically invented the genre. Jordan does put an awful lot of detail in his books...but I still think that Tolkien was the master...

You should be able to find WoT for $10 or less(I just saw it at an EB and Software etc. in Indiana). I bought the game first day it came out and I liked it (I'm also a huge fan of the books). The game story takes place before the books, and yes it does vary from the books a bit, but it's nothing horrible (some things get sacrificed for the sake of game play). Towards the end the game does start to feel same-old-same-old. But blasting Trollocs is cool. And wandering thru Shadar Logoth is worth the price of admission.
IMO the game's best part was the multiplayer(too bad the mp scene is so small). Dueling with a total of 39 offensive and defensive artifacts kicks ***(It's like a thinking mans UT or Q3A). I loved using "whirlwind" to drop people to their deaths, or "swapping" at the last second.
I never had a problem w/the controls. Weapon selection was a b*tch at first(I mean, you have up to 40 weapons possible in SP, and 30 in MP), but I got used to it after a week or so of heavy on-line play.

hmm...if I can find it for $10, then it just might be worth picking up. Because even if I hate it...I didn't waste too much money...now if I could only find the darn thing. To Software Etc. I go...after I get off work. I doubt if they'll have it though...looked before, never found it. arrgh.

So you can only use ter'angreal as weapons? The Aes Sedai don't channel at all? no angreal or sa'angreal? That's kinda weak if you ask me...but I'll prboably end up getting it anyway.

Yeap, that's the main gripe I had with the game. If you did like the books though, running through Shadar Logoth or the Ways is quite cool https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif

I remember an interview with someone who did wot...I think it was Tom Sweeny...and he said...that the game was running at some place and someone was playing it...and he tried to help the person for like a half an hour...and then he said that the kid just got too fustrated and moved on to a different game or something...

Yea...running through Shadar Logoth would be pretty cool. Too bad it didn't take place along the same time-frame as the books. Imagine being an Asha'man, or one of the rebels...had potential. If I can even find it, I think I might just pick it up, if just for the fact that its *based* on WoT. Can see a rendering of what Randland looks like. =)

This falls under the "deviation<sp?> for sake of game play" I mentioned. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif The Aes Sedai you play as is very weak and can't really Channel for sh*t w/o an artifact (that's the in-game reason for needing artifacts to channel).
I paid full price for the game when it came out and I don't regret it. On occasion I still start the game use the "all weapons" cheat, and just tear thru the levels reaking havoc. And, like I said before, the multiplayer kicks ***, IMHO.

Well...I got the game...when I tried to install it, it gave me an error that it couldn't read one file. So I had to go back to the store and get a replacement. I got it home and installed it, and realized that it isn't compatible with Win2K. So I'm gonna have to install it on my 98SE partition, which isn't exactly working at the moment. So...I guess I've wasted $10 bucks until I can get it working. arrrgh...very exasparating. I figured that it should work...I have plenty of games from that era and before that work fine in Win2k (Unreal, Half-Life, etc.) and they all work. But alas...

I haven't tried to run in in Win2k (it's sitting on my 98SE partition). check out www.wheeloftime.com Maybe they have a patch, or try the forums there. Maybe people know of a work around.
