Leadtek Ti 4400

Just got a Leadtek Ti 4400. It's not a bad card, but I was rather amazed at the sheer physical dimensions of the card. It's pretty heavy, and a bit bulky. Also sucks up a lot of voltage, all my voltage lines have dropped by about 0.01V after the installation.

However it overclocks reasonably well, best OC I have gotten out of it is 315/670. Anything more results in a black screen upon playing any game.

Best 3D Mark 2001 SE bench I got was a measily 7250, but that's with a Duron on a SDR based board :

Hopefully there will be more of a jump in performance when I get my 1600+ back from an RMA.

Overall I'm reasonably happy with the purchase, however I can't honestly say it's worth that much more over the MX card I used previously. Sure, I can run Quake 3 at 1600x1200x32 w/ 4X FSAA and 8X anistrophic filtering, as well as Ghost Recon at 1600x1200x32 w/ 2X FSAA, but it doesn't make that much of a difference during gameplay. Can't tell the difference between 50 FPS or 150 FPS either. :|

BTW, on that massive heatsink - it doesn't seem to do the job. While Leadtek were clever enough to use thermal paste on the memory, the heatsink doesn't even really make contact with the memory. :(

Well I could clamp it I guess, but that's just poor craftsmanship on Leadtek's side.

Maybe try removing it and add some arctic silver to it? Also nice oc, its only a bit above ti4600 levels which is pretty good. Here's a tip, over at firingsquad, they put a fan strapped on the back of the leadtek ti4600 and they said it helps so give that a try :).

Thanks for the tip. I've ended up removing the heatsink and redoing the thermal paste, then clamping it so that it has firm contact with the mem sinks. Also strapped an 80mm Sunon to the back of the card, will try overclock it a little more later. :)

Too bad Leadtek didnt clamp it down themselves , I wonder how the Gainward TI4400 OC's...??:confused:

Oh, another thing. Dronez, Gunlok and Winfox all suck majorly. You could basically take the bundled software and add it to your frisbee collection.

What games and utils does the Gainward card come with?

nice oc...i have a pny ti4400. i used the thermalate blue HS on the once side of the card and some cheap radioshack hs on the back side, with that thermal tape stuff. i can push the mem all the way to 690 (the max on the coolbits tweak), it runs stable but there are glitches and it actually drops my 3dmark score!! so far the best score i get is at 310/670...when i push the mem any higher it drops my score a few hundred points.

is at 310/670...but it STILL reports agp speed at 2x!!! What gives
but at least you got a game bundle, my cd had the reference driverss and dx8 :) but i did get tose snazzzy 3d shutter glasses!!!!!:rolleyes:

Dang...core won't go any higher no matter what. I guess the Ti 4400 cores are reject Ti 4600 cores. :(

Something rather odd, my hardware monitoring doesn't seem to work. I ordered the card with HM, however after installing the icky Winfox program, it says the HM section is not "available". :confused:

I've managed to get to 695 on mem with no artifacting (looks like the heatsink really made a difference), but like you, 3D Mark drops about 500 points. Rather sucky. 675 MHz is about the highest I can get without any performance loss.

Did you try using a 3rd party utility to enable 4X AGP? Something like NVMax?

Yes there is racism here, however usually it comes from both sides. Fortunetly it seems things are going a lot better when it comes to racial discrimination, (no more seperate schooling, etc), but financially our country is really going down the drain. Technologically, heck we don't even get broadband here. :o

I think I'm gonna go for the MSI Geforce4 Ti4400 128mb DDR for $260 at Newegg. Even if it doesn't overclock very well, I'm sure the card is plenty fast enough stock. I've realized overclocking, unless substantial, really isn't neccessary as the results often aren't noticeable. It's a self glorification thing. :)

According to reviews I ve seen ( www.tbreak.com ) the Gainward GF4 TI4400 tops out at 300/630 for OCing :( :(

And without extra clamping or cooling MoM got his Leadtek GF4 Ti4400 to 315/670 which means.....

The New Heavyweight OCing Ti4400 Champion Of the World is Leadtek !! :D

MoM: i tried NVmax to force it to 4x but it didnt change it. :mad:
i wonder if it could be a bad card or driver prob. I did install the new via 4-1s but that shouldnt affect the agp since i did NOT install the via agp stuff.
what did u use to attach your ramsinks? i used that cheap tapelike stuff that came with the thermaltake ramsink kit. i thought about getting those plated copper sinks and AS epoxy, but im afraid to use it, if i glue em on and need to rma the board sometime in the future will i be able to get em off? cause $30 US is a lot to pay for ramsinks!!

Different cards will have different results, I'll wait for a few more reviews before we declare the winner ;).

NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here in Vancouver, at the store in which im building my computer. They have 3 choices in terms of Ti4400.

Right now, they have either, the Abit Ti4400 or the MSI version. I think both lacks tv in (very sad). But i care for actually raw game performance. So which one is better? The price is almost the same, and i dont care for the game bundle (i only want the o/c tweaker software and the video software). I might be doing some O/C (is it really needed to play MOAHH at 1600x1200 FSAA max?). So which one is better for OC?

The owner also informed me that they will have Asus ti4400 and VisonalTek (Sp?) Ti4400 just today. Which one the better version? MSI, Asus, VisonTek, or ABIT?

I have worked my *** off in a mcdonalds, treated like a *****, now i dont want to throw my money away by buying the less surperior ti4400. So any help (links to reviews, etc) would be greatfully welcomed!!!

Hehe which mcdonald you work in :rolleyes:? I went to almost everyone in town ;). Btw I don't work for my parts but my parents buy it for me :D. Anyway I'll buy the abit from the list of choices that you made. I'll skip the visiontek for sure as I got a visiontek geforce 3 and its pissing me off by the amount of heat it dissipates :(.

Ah, good, another vancouvrite.

Im only 16, and my parents only gave me 2000bucks for the comp. So i got a job at mcdons down at granvile downtown. Its hard work, theres too much things to whine about.

Anyways, im getting this comp from A-power (a-power.com) down at richmond. Their prices are pretty generous, on par to the everyday prices down in the US.

Now i dont know where else you can get a good custom built-comp (with good selection to choose from). But my friend recommanded apower, so i went there. But in case you know of any other places to get good prices, please tell me. Or maybe i can get cheaper parts hree and there, and you can help me install it!

I cant find a review on Abit. ... Visiontek seems too generic. MSI got good features.. but i heard it got no video in... Asus, ... i dunno yet. Im holding out another month to get the tbred instead of the AMDXP. So i still have sometime to choose.

Hey, mr. vancouver dude, i hope to get some more replies from you. Maybe we'll meet up some time!

LOL are you serious? I'm 16 as well and personally I hate a-power. You heard of atic right? They'll be carrying leadtek cards soon. Its down by broadway and main. Then again both atic and a-power have bad customer service :(. Last I saw, the MSI costs $475 over at a-power....I duno about that though, how much is the Abit?

I might set up my shawbox and get it to work on my computer, so i can use my own mon as a tv and the new one for other uses.

Where else can i get custom build PCs other than antic and Apower? Isn the price between Antic and Apower almost the same? I cant find any lower prices (i mean lower significantly) in vancouver.

Yea 16, bad comp etc. It sux.
