Okay there are two flavors of this drive:
1. LTR-40125S
2. LTR-40125W
What are the differences between the two? What does the "S" and "W" stand for? Which should I get?
Thanks.

Newegg has a seperate heading for Black CD-RW drives, so as long as you didn't buy from under that it should be white, just click the see picture button to make sure you got a white one :)Quote:

thank you very much.
My Lite-On 40x12x48x came in and I installed it. Only have discs to burn up to 12x so haven't been able to experience the full speed yet but so far I am really happy.
I have a 24/10/40x Lite-On and I love it
BTW: where in MN are you cablejuggaloz?
I live in Grand Rapids, MN.
lol.
OMG WAIT!!!!! the S drive can be firmware upgraded to 48x, since they are THE SAME DRIVE as the 481248W. the W however, cannot be upgraded. i bought the S and firmaare upgraded it to a 48x and it runs fine at 48x, as well it should, seeing as its THE SAME DRIVE as the 481248W. so yeah, get the S. if u already ordered the S, PM me and i will send you the firmware you need (its the same as lite ons but without the drive check so you can change the 40x to the 48).
