it will be an improvement, but if anything I would get the SDRAM outta there .. that is a big bottleneck, P4 1.33 ??? U mean AMD 1.33?
GF4-TI4600 = $300 ... If I was you I would wait a lil bit til NV30 and R300 is introduced since you are looking to spend some money it sounds like
well actually im 15 and dont even have a job all id o is water a guys lawn for 10$ a day :D then gonna paint his fence for hopefully 300$.
how much will it cost for the ram to make it like i dunno 512 ddr or something.
$90-130...round the top of my head, give or take...Quote:

To use ddr ram, you will need a new motherboard. with a new mobo, you would want a new processor. You are looking at around $200 - $300 pending on what you want. But then you have no more money for the vid card.I would suggest keeping what you have since it should still run all the games on the market today. Save up and do an all around upgrade. The GeForce2 is still a pretty good card.Quote:

Hey,
Don't feel too bad, a 1.33Ghz is still faster than what most people have. I'd suggest you upgrade the RAM and then settle for the GeForce4 Ti4200 or 4400. They're both excellent video cards too.
so im gonan need a **** load for ddr.
what if i get like a lot of rd or something.
i need some links to everythign i need form liek pricewatch cause i know nothign on brands or prices.
what is dif between sd and ddr ram?
what does ram do?
ram makes your computer do stuff faster, you'll need a new motherboard, ddr is twice as fast as sdr, try looking here http://www.newegg.com/Quote:

Dude, that computer is more than good enough to run a GF4. Any better vid card is going to help out performance. What card do you have now?
its 32 mb geforce 2 and going to a 128 mb gf4 would rock.
why do i need a new mobo?
Because your board doesnt support DDR or RDRAM.....Im still running a GF2 what game are you getting that needs a GF4?
You don't. You should notice a definite performance increase by upgrading to a GF4 with your current setup.Quote:

However, I'd think you could get by with your GF2 for quite a while. But then again, that's coming from a guy who still uses a TNT2 on a P2-350.
I'm using a GeForce 2 32MB DDR as well, and it runs all my games just fine, yes, even the newer ones like Jedi Outcast and Medal of honor.
But upgrading to a Geforce 4 will definetly improve performance. The Vid card is THE most important aspect of running 3d games smoothly. Upgrading your CPU is not important...thats PLENTY fast to handle any games out there...it the vid card that will hold you back.
And while SDRAM is not the best out there, you don't need to waste all your money on a new main board JUST so you can have (and say you have) a DDR or RDRAM compatible board. They will help performance, but your biggest boost will come out of a new graphics card, plain and simple.
let me guess...you were tom sawyer in a previous life time?Quote:

btw, I know you were you just looking for an excuse to post your system specs. You already know the answer to your question.
Or maybe he was actually asking because he didn't know. You could give him the benefit of the doubt and - just a suggestion - maybe offer him some help?Quote:

RAM - Random Access Memmory is where information is stored between the hard drive and the processor. Larger ammounts allow you to place more applications and files in it... much like a larger bowl being able to hold more cereal for example.Quote:

DDR is most certainly not twice as fast as SDR. On a good day it's about 33% (give or take a few) faster than your average SDR set up.
ZacT10 - your computer should be able to handle a GF4 pretty well. I'd suggest a Ti4200 though - it seems to be the best bang for the buck, and lets face it - the sooner you get it the better, right? You're most likely not going to squeeze that many more frames per second off of a Ti4600 as a result of your system so I really do not think it's worth it.
Two things. ONe, you need a new mobo cause yours supports the SDRAM format, not DDR, or the optimal RDRAM. Second, get the gf4 now if you want, but as someone mentioned earlier, your system is a lot better than some people's, namely mine. if you have any pity, send me your old geforce 2 if you get a new gf4. i could really use a new vid card, but i dont have the money to buy one. i did a while ago but something came up and now im stuck with my piece of crap ATI.
He doesn't need a new motherboard, unless he wants to get a new processor or get faster RAM. All he's asking about is his video card. Upgrading to a GF4 will not require a new motherboard, CPU, or RAM.Quote:

I agree with bpost32 on getting a Ti4200, though.
so like on pricewatch or newegg.com how much woudl a 4200 be?
so this will really help gaming out a lot.
would a stick of rd ram or somethign help cuz when iwas playing dungeon siege it cut off and said not enuf ram available or something like that.
what if i dont know how to install a video card?
Im buying the Gainward/Cardexpert Ti4200 128meg with CRT and TV-Out ~ $179 I believe... they have cheaper 64meg models too... just check out www.newegg.com
As for the RAM, if you've got SD-RAM now, you're gonna have to stick with it.
You need to get that SDRAM out of there. It's a huge bottleneck. Other than that, it should run well. :)
Another 256megs would help you with your memory issues, but I wouldn't recommend any more than that. And unless you plan on buying a new motherboard, you're stuck with SDRAM for now.
There are plenty of tutorials and such around that can guide you through the installation process.
DDR ram would be better but dont worry about it if you wanna get a gf 4 get it,with that alone you will be happy.
Then in the future go ahead and get DDR.
Personaly I didnt notice much of a diference in between DDR and normal SDRAM.Especially in games, major diferences I noticed were when loading webpages or whatever they seemed half a second faster.
Jesus Christ... why is everyones answer always upgrade to the latest and greatest. It's obvious that he is not made of money, and neither am I. You guys are suggesting he gets DDR, where if he did that, he'd have to get a new motherboard, and if he got a new motherboard he might have to buy a new processor, etc... when all he wants is a new video card which will work perfectly fine with his system AS IS. No it wont run like 12000 3DMarks but who gives a crap? I've constantly advocated that 3DMarks is nothing more than a measure of your penis envy. It'll work great in games - which he's obviously intending to play, not just watch some stupid *** time demo and benchmark. blah. I dont get why people blow a couple thousand dollars to brag about how many points they get in 3DMark... utterly retarded in my opinion.
That's exactly my problem as well. Someone asks about upgrading a video card and suddenly everyone's suggesting he buy a new mobo, cpu, ram, etc., etc...
