Just to justify what TAZ is saying....he has a good "case" against how "cool" these people are with their long sigs. ;) There ya go, now this thread is back on topic!!!
Thanks mOO, I forgot to ask a case or cooling question. OK whats the best HSF for under 25 bucks? LOL
Mine's kind of long, I suppose, but I do just have my single rig in there, and not even a lot of the silly stuff some people have in (no mouse, keyboard or monitor)
i love when ppl give long sigs, because i love to know what kinds of equip ppl have, and what mods they have done, that way you dont have to ask them, u can just check their sig. just scroll by it, it is no big deal, it shouldnt be bothering you :)
Yes well, I took the hint and completely eliminated my long sig. I realize it's overkill and not really needed unless it's a requirement to help solve a problem.
As I stated before, I've seen very long sigs on other forums and guess I thought it was normal. Irritating, but normal.
I wish more forums would take Sharkys' lead and make a policy that there are no system specs listed in a person's sig. If it's needed to troubleshoot, then so be it, but it still doesn't have to be part of a sig.
It was suggested to me that I find some free web space to link for my system specs, as I see some of you already do. That's a good idea and maybe I'll even throw up a couple pics of the reason behind my forum handle. :)
I never said they bothered me. I was just wondering what was up with them. I thought I might have missed a thread that said see how long you can make your SIG. BigBlue66 thats a good idea to link your specs but some folks don't have sites to link them to. I will follow your lead and Link mine. :DQuote:

OCGurus is a good place if you just want to list the bare specs. But they don't got XP procs in their menus :rolleyes:Quote:

[EDIT]'Twas thinking if people COULD list their whole system, but have it in small type. Hmm? Delusions?[/EDIT]
I've seen that. It's what inspired my sig format (see qoute) This is the sig code if you want to borrow it.Quote:

How to build a computer like Big Dog From what I've seen, Sharky Forums doesn't contain many good examples of written English. I'd steer clear if I were you, or you might get bad habits.
http://pics.bbzzdd.com/ is a free image hosting site.
i shortened mine a while ago cuz i thought people might start gettin annoyed of my long *** sig;)
I'd be overjoyed if there was a 10-line limit on signatures...
Long signatures seem pretty silly to me. They serve little purpose other than bragging in most cases, anyway. If you feel the need to post any more than your essential components, you should link to a web page with those specs.
'Course, it's always impressive to see a one sentence reply, followed by half a page of system specs, quotes, planned upgrades...
Be thankful that Images aren't allowed ;)Quote:

You know, you can abbreviate a lot of that crap, and there is such a thing as smaller font you know. Mine basically shows all my HW in one line.
Lol, still "long ***." Did you really have to tell us your planned upgrades, and dead components? Just say Tbird 1.4, 8k3a, gf4, ddr, you hdds, and get the hell out of there!Quote:

Ok changed it. Now all that junk wont be in my sig;) .
LOL, no kidding. There are plenty of forums that do allow images, though...Quote:

I was tempted to mention something along those lines, but refrained. :p It's a good point, though.Quote:

I went ahead and shortened mine too !! it was a bit long
I think this thread belongs in my sig ;)
How do I change the font? I looked before but didn't see an option to do that.
Incidentally, you can turn off sigs so you don't have to look at them.
It isn't that we don't want to look at them. We just don't want too look at one that is 5 pages long!Quote:

So what is considered too long by the majority? I personally like people to have spec's in their sigs as I use it to see what combinations are put together out there. I do think that specs are usefull but, with size issues in mind, I tried to keep mine to a minimum and still show some details.
Maybe a 3 line limit would be good (now off I go to shorten mine!)
Cheers,
Hey Casper, so how did you alter your font to the small blue one?
Personally, I like to see them too but I could do with tidying mine up a little.
I've never been bothered by the issue. If Sharkey wants them shorter, all it needs to do is limit the space available for that item.
I don't mean to be critical but doesn't it seem a little fascist to be too concerned with what someone looks like, in this case in written form ;)
I hate long sigs too - remember the longer they are, the lesser the people paying any attention to them. They just make the post unreadable. I list my 2 comps in my sig and I can do it it just 2 lines and refer to them by their numbers.
I think three lines is a bit short. Hell, even I have three lines. Five to ten lines is where I'd like to see the limit. That's certainly not unreasonable. Folks with longer sigs might complain, but they're the ones who have tons of useless crap in their sigs to begin with. Besides, "compressing" your sig doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave anything out - as has been suggested: make the font smaller, abbreviate or shorten items ("AXP1800+" rather than "AMD Athlon XP 1800+"), and put more than one item per line ("AXP1800+ / 512MB PC2700 / etc."). Frankly, I'm amazed that so few people have come up with these ideas. It seems like common sense - and common courtesy - to do so.Quote:

Cheers,
Yours is pretty much perfect, bluesfusion is also fine. But Rob's is kinda long.
