sweet cant wait to get home and start the d/l then its off to see the "actual" results in sof2!

4x AA 6265

No AA 11488

My lowest fps almost doubled on nature for No AA. As happy as I am to see the boost in numbers, I'm just as unhappy to see that they have been holding out on us.
We don't know that they have been holding out. At this time we don't know what the drivers changed. They could have just as easily changed the LOD or something else to gain these extra points. Also, 3DMark is a common benchmark. Most card makers try to optimize drivers for games/programs used most commonly in benchmarking. Unfortunately, when this is done it rarely translates into increased performance across the board for all programs.Quote:

I'm so anxious to test these right now :D
My 3DMark 2001 SE score was 10757 with the 30.82's (Whichever the last official release was), and it jumped up 1000+ to 11815 with these new Detonator 40.41's.
I too noticed the huge increase during the "Nature" portion of the benchmark.
I also updated the link in my sig. if anyone wants to compare scores.
<edit>
I score 6705 with 4XAA Enabled
</edit>
My impressions so far: These drivers suck.
First off when you benchmark with Direct3D under "Best Performance" mipmap details everything gets pixelated, similiar to what you would expect if your playing a game without hardware acceleration.
Second off, these drivers delete my favorite resolution of 1280x960. No Nvidia driver to date has done this.
Third Impression: I've done the usual benchmarks, Quake3 and 3DMark2001SE. Quake3 remained about the same and I lost 160 3DMarks at 1024x768@32-bit with my GeForce3 Ti200 at 220/465.
*edit* I've tried 2 other Mipmap details, Best Image Quality and Blend. Both of them do not give pixelated graphics. Previous Nvidia drivers to date did not pixelize graphics when set under "Best performance" in Direct3D, only made them slightly more blurry.
Nvidia refresh rate & RivaTuner's refresh rate fix do not work on the 40.41's. Anyone know a program that doesn't need to be running in the background (i.e, RefreshLock) to fix the refresh rate?
*edit 2* Seems like these drivers aren't optimized as well as for GeForce4's. 22.80's back I go. Not only do those offer better performance but better image quality.
That res works fine for me :confused:Quote:

Hey guys I just installed and banched the new detonators!
I got 6910.
My specs are below. I don`t think it`s a bad score. Unfortunately I cannot compare it since MADONION is not loading up. Sucks.
Anyway let me know what do you think!
That's not a bad score. It's just about right for the hardware in your system.Quote:

From around 8800 to 9725. Nicely done :) My nature avg fps nearly doubled as well as other improvements in other areas.
any word on if these will be released on win 9x or win me? i think i deserve some extra 3dmarks too:P
If I get over 10k with these drivers.. I'm going to party big time!!!
Boy, it's a good thing ATI came out with a super fast card. Otherwise, we'd being seeing some deja vu.
hmmmm I only got about 300 extra 3dmarks. also, the tests seem jerkier than usual... every few seconds the screen skips. anyone know what im taking about? well whatever you call it, it got alot worse with the new drivers even though my scores went up a bit.
I guess no one else notices how messed up the graphics become when you enable best performance under Direct3D. Everything starts to look as bad as an old PlayStation game after that . Older Nvidia drivers just made things a little more blurry but at least it didn't look horrible.
how do the new drivers affect IMAGE QUALITY?
i've heard problems w/ messed up textures.
seems like nvidia is disabling some stuff at certain modes just to boost 3dmark...
does anyone get significant improvements running 4xAA and 16xAF?
What are you saying? I don't have my GeForce2 on hand at the moment to test it out but does it disable texture filtering (bilinear/trilinear/aniso)?Quote:

These are from Pre-40.41 properties display but here is what I mean:Quote:

When mipmap performance is set to Best Performance everything becomes Pixelated = everything looks like an old PlaySation game. Older Nvidia drivers have never done this before.
When set to best image quality or blend everything goes back to normal.
[rant]boy do I feel like an echo either that or no one cares about what I say[/rant]
Do you mean it goes back to normal on High Performance and Blend? You are saying Best is pixelated and then Best and Blend go back to normal.Quote:

What I mean is that on best performance image quality becomes absoulute junk.
When you put it back to best IQ or blend the image quality goes back to normal. What I mean by "normal" is that things don't look pixelated anymore. Pre-40.41 drivers did not have any pixelation at best performance mipmap details.
40.41's have pixelaation at best performance setting
I think Nvidia did some mipmap exploiting ;).
Okay, I gotcha. That's basically what I said back on the first page. The card makers frequently optimize for benchmark programs commonly used and that LOD may have been effected in the process of doing this, and your testing seems to pan that out. Since Nature is a highly detailed level with lots of mip maps, that would make sense as to why the scores jumped so high in that particular bench.
Did you purge the original driver? If you didn't then there are bits and pieces of left overs and made your graphic look that that.Quote:

I also see this phenomena. Although my score is quite good so I just leave it at Best Image quality. It does almost look like software rendering though at best performance.
hmmmm nope i didnt, didnt realize i had to. is that really neccesary?Quote:
