I'll tell you as soon as my two arrive. Arrgh, stupid Harbor Labor Union strike!
I don't even know if anyone even has one. I would think Win2k would work with that machine. ;)
I don't see why not..
If it wasn't so cheap to build an XP1600+/nForce/256mb system (using spare parts I have, plus a few from newegg), I might consider picking one of those $200 systems up, just for kicks..mess around with lindows a bit, and maybe use it as a server for something. It is a Cyrix though, isn't it? Kinda bleh...
I'm running WIN2000 PRO on a K6-2 500mhz with a 10gig harddrive, Viper II video card, Netgear NIC and 192meg of ram just fine. No sound card. I just use this one to surf if other two are taken.
i'm running win2k on a p200 non-mmx, with 256mb of ram, and a voodoo1 with some pos trident 2d card....runs rather impressively, so i'm sure win2k would do fine on that walmart pc.
I don't know exactly how differant they are, but I'm running XP pro on my P1 166MMX laptop. So I bet it would run at least OK, you might want to put some more RAM in it, then it comes with though.
Aw yes, but wouldn't it be nice to have a silent pc? What other cool mods could you do? hmmm...Quote:

I wonder how that thing will run with a 9700 pro :)Quote:

Windows 2000 runs just fine on my Celeron 400 system that has an ABIT BH6 motherboard and 128MB of RAM.
Like putting a v-8 in a vw bug.Quote:

I'd think the front half might just go fast enough to tear the car in two :)Quote:

hahahahaha, I think so.
this is the first time I have heard of Lindows, I went to lindows.com, and it costs like $100 to get it, Is there something I don't get here, How can some po-dunk OS expect to sell if it costs that much?
How does WinXP Pro expect to sell for $300?Quote:

Since the $200 computer includes it, it doesn't seem to be a bad deal...if it included WinXP Pro instead, it would be even better :p
How else are they going to pay bills? I am sure they are not gouging people at that price.Quote:

To go along with the insanity that is MS. Look at Office XP Pro.
Access $300
Excel $300
Outlook $100
Powerpoint $300
Word $300
Lets see $1300 to buy all the pieces or $500 to just buy the suite, choices choices. (by the way all prices are off Staples website rounded to the nearest hundred)
Its based on a free OS. $20-$30 would be more inline. In fact you just listed all the reasons I will not pay for MS products. My MSDN subscription works just fine.Quote:

I was under the impression that since it was based on linux that they had to have it free to download.
It is based on linux, but what your essentially paying for is their Click-N-Run service. It lets you download a bunch of programs (I think 10 to start) that you can choose to customize your computer. It also includes updates for your system (i.e. service packs, patches, security, drivers). You get StarOffice which retails for $75. In the long run your getting a pretty good deal if all you want to do is use it for a few things around the home/office.Quote:

Did staroffice start charging? Last time I checked it was free to download. If you talking about getting the manual's, etc you probably don't get those with the walmart pc either.Quote:

Eric
OpenOffice = Free
It can and will since it is the first fully-blown Linux OS that supports any Windows application :DQuote:

I went to their site and yes it did change. I believe it was 5.0 that was free. Anyway you are probably getting OEM which is $25 on their site. In fact less depending on the quantity you purchase. I'm guessing the Walmart PC got them a lot cheaper than $25.Quote:

I think Winux would have been a better name for it... Lindows sounds lame... maybe that's what they were going for though :D
