266MHz FSB 2600+. ;)
You can get a 2600+, but make sure it has a 266fsb not 333. Also make sure you have the newest BIOS for it.
Hey Dave, I have an 8KHA+ in my own machine right now. Considering that the XP1500+ was the first chip I put in it, I'd say it's not all that shabby that I can put an XP2600+ into this same mobo. You CERTAINLY can't put a P4 2600MHz into one of the first P4 mobos, so that's a bit of food for thought. I'd say I've gotten pretty damn good mileage out of this board, and although I'm going to buy an EPoX NForce2 mobo as my next upgrade along with a 333MHz or 400MHz (we can hope) Barton, I'm still going to keep the 8KHA+ for a while and put an XP2600+ chip in it when they're cheap enough.Quote:

Didn't know AMD made a 266/2600+, thanks y'all. :)
Hmm, I wonder why you had to bring the P4 into this? :confused:Quote:

But you're not entirely correct there, you can get Socket 423 to Socket 478 adaptors (similar to the 'Slotket' for the Slot 1 based mobos) and you can fit a 400MHz FSB P4 into any old P4 mobo.
Just Ordered a 266/2400+. Hope it works...and OC's. ;)
it should do both for ya ;) if you've got some really good cooling 2.3-2.4Ghz is possible with that chip. let us know how it goes.Quote:

I've got good cooling. My 1600+@150 runs 95deg F.Quote:

Is this for the custom case computer? If so, how's she holding up, and has your dividers worked well in the long run? I loved the idea way back when, and I saw the pics, but I was just curious how it all turned out this far down the road.Quote:

If you have some good ram you can get a nice overclock out of that board... heck I did 185Mhz FSB on that board when I had it. :)
It works like a dream. The only thing I changed was to remove all the exhaust fans. It runs alot cooler without them even though they put out more CFM than the intakes.Quote:

I've slacked about actually finishing it to a level to show. But I will do it very soon.
I'm running 512megs of Corsair XMS PC2700 if I remember correctly.
I seem to remember that The 8kha+ would only handle up to the Thoroughbred A core. Is this actually the case. I thought that the Thoroughbred A core stopped at 2200+. So what you guys are saying is that the 8kha+ will still support newer cpu's as long as they are the 266mhz FSB variants???

there should be no difference between T-bred B and T-bred A, with regards to compatibility. of course i may be wrong, and maybe someone knowledgeable like moridin might correct me. major differences were between tbird and palo, with arch differences, but i think T-bred was just a process shrink.
also make sure appropriate multipliers are available.

Here's a link to Epox's CPU support manual. It will tell you what CPUs work with what Epox motherboards. Very informative.
8KHA+ (October 2001 revision) boards do not support XP2600+. Sadly, I have one myself.Quote:

What about with a bios update?
I imagine you have a great heatsink for that chip. However, in case you don't you need one. With the newer line of T-Bred's, AMD is shipping coppper base retail sinks for these puppies. I imagine you got that covered since you were talking about OC'ing, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. It will OC well with good cooling, as someone stated before.Quote:

Well that is depressing. I just got this mother board a coulpe of months ago and it does not seem to support any of the 333 chips. Why would the put 333 on the box if it does not support it. I feel riped off.

I believe the KT333 chipset only has official support for 266MHz FSB CPU's but that EPoX motherboard you have will have no problems running a 333MHz processor.Quote:

jagojago, geez, thanks. I have updating the BIOS regularly, but last time I checked (couple of months???) there wasn't anything new.
Support for the xp2600+? Yeah!
But...will it work for the October 2001 revision? :( I hope so. :)

Will this be sufficent. I know it's old by cooling standards.Quote:

Yea, looks fine. Is that an SK-6??? It looks like one with an adaptor on it. As long as it is copper based you should be fine. It looks like you got great cooling in the rest of your system anyways so I wouldn't worry about an upgrade. However, if you plan to push this chip to 2200MHz+ you will probably need to go with an SLK-800 or something heavy duty. It looks like your board should be fine with that chip in there. :)
To Gorn... I don't know if you are reading the right thread, but you stated you have an Epox 8K5A3+. This board is fine with the newer processors. The board in question was an Epox 8KHA. Everything that AMD has released recently, and most likely later, will work fine with your board.
Yes, it's a lapped SK6 with adpt and ASII. I'll see how my temps are and go from there. Running 95deg F now.Quote:
