Awesome, thanks for the heads up, muisejt~ :)
Thanks for the link, very interesting. I´m quite surprised that the Revolution 7.1 didn´t match the DMX 6-Fire card in the music tests. However, as the reviewer stated, listening to music is very subjective.
More reviews would be appreciated :)
What I really appreciated from this review is the fact that there was a control group, with blind tests. That really makes things much more objective.
god I love techreports reviews
I just wish they would use a little broader base of music in their music tests. Some of want to know how good bad music can get.
m-audio is a company that makes studio equipment... you will hear a lot about this card, although I've heard it is not good at all for games.
My M-Audio Revolution 7.1 works just fine and dandy for games.

My friend said it took him 3 days of tinkering with drivers / config utils to get his Revo to match the performance of his old onboard AC'97 in games.Quote:

But seriously, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. I didn't compare my Revo to onboard, but rather to an Audigy 1. I lose anywhere from 0-10 FPS in games. Average is prolly 5 FPS in Splinter Cell. No big whoop. Most of the time the FPS are so high it doesn't matter to me anyways. My only real complaint with the card is that the volume seems REALLY low while watching some DVDs.
That actually looks quite tempting, it has a proper coaxial digital output, which would be ideal for hooking up to my DAC. Ah, something else to spend my money on :o
I'm planning on getting this card instead of an Audigy 2. I don't think the performance hit in games will be noticeable enough to me. Plus I won't have the Audigy 2 to compare to so...
P.S. I just hit Reef Shark. w00t! I was starting to hate catfish. :D
If you really ARE planning to get it, dealnews says that CompUSA has it with a $35 mail-in rebate (through the 12th).Quote:

Just ordered the card. Thanks for the heads up on the deal. It comes with a full version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. Bonus. Cool.
Only form you Fig, can I not consider this a typoQuote:

Hmm, I´m not sure which sound card to get for my new computer system in the near future. The Terratec 6-Fire or the M-audio Revolution 7.1? My highest priority is music. After that it is games and DVD´s.
While this is a pretty tempting card, the Terratec DMX6Fire 24/96 wins me over simply due to the breakout box. If only it weren't so damn expensive. :)
Yes, the breakout box is a plus for me too. I like to have easy access to the headphone out and the other speaker cables etc.Quote:

Do you believe that this card is better for music than the Revolution?
Why thank you dear kind sir! :pQuote:

Anyway, if I remember correctly from various reviews both the M-Audio and the Terratec were many miles ahead of the competition in the music department. As it stands I think it's more a personal preference thing, and the Terratec has the built-in phono pre-amp in the breakout box.
