Beware the Promedia 5.1's

Well, I must say after about a year of enjoyment from these speakers my set has died. I went to the klipsch forums and read several others doing the same. I know they had had problems but never to this level. They are also saying that none of the retailers are going to carry them do to the high return quota on them. I thought i'd share this with you all before anyone decides to buy a set. I kinda feel it my duty to throw in a negative about klipsch beings i'm probably their biggest fan on this forum. Now what the hell to get??????? Its auditioning time I guess:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

They started shipping fixed models in February/March I believe. They also had a program to extend the warranty to two years from one year for free. Check there forums again.

I think thats the problem with these multimedia speakers, exspecially 4.1 amd 5.1 models. They try to squeez all of this power into a small avordable unit, but sacrifices such as the quality of components must be sacraficed.

I had a problem with the amp on the PM 5.1, but I called up klipsch and I sent them my old one and they sent me a new one, no problems. Call them up and they will hook you up.

Kind of weird, I turned them on today and they worked then went out again when I played a song. The only thing is with returning is that i'm not going to be one of these z560 guys.

Problems recently fixed, new two year extended warranty - what was the complaint again ?

Mine is going to be pushing a year soon... I havent had a problem yet!

I've had mine for a year and so far they're fine. I'll take that warranty extension just in case though. Thanks for the link Invicta.

No probelem. I plan on getting these speakers and I found the link when I was researching them. They seem to have customer service.

The complaint again would be having to deal with it in the first place. I can't believe people see a warranty extension as a fix. Thats hardly the way to do it. A $400 multimedia system should not die after a year or two. I've had an old set of altec lansing ada880's since they came out and they still work great. I would also say they have taken more punishment than thes PM's have.

It was a design flaw. They fixed it. Had something to do with capacitors or something. Did you find out if you are covered by the warranty?

this happened to my set, i returned them, and they sent me a full new set.
they do have good customer service

It just goes to show I don't favor one manufacturer over another. I believe in whats best for the money, regardless who makes it. I think if there is a flaw with these then it should be shared with others considering them. Hopefully its fixed but like I said before, i'm not going to go through the z560 crap. I'll do it once thats all.

edit: oh yeah, actually I think I pushed the altec 641's more than the promedia's. But up until now, yes, i did push them plenty.

I would also like to add, directly from a thread in the klipsch forums, that several retailers are discontinuing carrying the promedia 5.1's due to overwhelming returns. Including bestbuy, where I bought mine.

Warranties are inplace for a defective product. It protects the consumer from the exact problem you are having...

I would complain! They will replace it... I would only complain if they said it is my fault that they are blown/damaged... You should be happy they will honnor the return after a year or more!

Every manufacture had released a defective product by accident... Its not like its something new??? So why act like it???

You should be happy that they will most likely give you a brand new set! From there you can sell it and move on or just continue using them :)

I had originally wanted to go with the megaworks 650's but seeing as they have fixed the problem I'm going back to my original choice of the PM 5.1's. I hope I'm not disappointed with them in Doom 3 or music :)

Happy??? Because I get to pay to ship these to klipsch because of there screw up??? I've owned many electronics and this is the first i've had problems with, no i'm not happy.

Why? because my a$$ is the one that pays for it once then pays again when their junk screws up. It shouldn't be my hassle. As far as i'm concerned they should have to come pick my set up, fix it, bring it back, and give me a set to use while they are fixing THEIR flaw.

Now I dont want to start an argument but you know how stupid that sounds???? Why should they go out to your house and do all that for you?? Well they might at $100/hr at least... If you want to go that route..

Shipping it not a big deal, what did it cost $25 to ship it ground??? Come on... Its not the end of the world...

Sometimes developers dont realise a flaw until after it is released... Look at all the games on the market.. They supply updates and patches to fix the game after it is released... So should they come over to your house and install the patch???

If you dont want to the hassle with dealing with warranties... Then make it yourself! Otherwise there will always be warranties and shipping fees associated with it..

It lasted over a year.. I dont call that junk or defective.. The only time a product in my eyes is junk is when it doesnt last longer then a month under normal abuse :)

A year??? When I spend $400 on a multimedia system I expect much more than a year. Hey, I paid my part and bought their product. Just because they built it faulty shouldn't be my problem. As stupid as it may sound to you it doesn't to me. Remember, you are a retailer you have different views than me and others. Regardless how little $25 is its still $25 that shouldn't be my problem. I bought them in a bestbuy, I didn't pay to have them shipped in the first place. Nobody said it was the end of the world. You seem to be making much more of a scene of this thread then I am worried about the speakers. I'm just not a happy customer any more. I could have kept quiet and still said klipsch pm5.1's are the greatest so everyone should buy them. However, I found a flaw with mine so I let it be known. Again, one year is NOTHING for life of a product. If things only lasted a year who would ever want to buy anything? I'm not trying to start a fight here either but I find it kind of rediculous when people defend the companies selling faulty items and not the customers who get screwed in the end. If I would have blown them abusing them I would have a whole different outlook on it. But when its a manufacturers flaw then I see no reason why they shouldn't have to go out of their way to make the situation right. I'm talkin a new set sent overnight with a return PAID shipping slip sent with them.

And since it was just your set that has a problem doesnt mean the unit was defective.. It is possible it was something that you did to them that cause the problem.. They have no way of knowing.. So my original statement stands..

So what if you paid $400 over a year ago.. Things go defective. Its like my favorite saying "S*** happens".
