whats with all these scanned in screen shots?! The past 3 games ive seen here have had scanned screens. Thats horrible, it donesnt look good at all like that. I need REAL screen shots :p
/rant
Is this still for the PS2?
If those are screenshots no chance in hell of it on PS2 unless it's really watered down. The PS2 can't even multi texture!
PS2 dosent have AA, and those shots are smoooth. My guess is Xbox, or, dare i say it, PC! Hopefully :(
Yes its on PS2, polyphony digital is sony developer.

PS2 might be weaker than gamecube and xbox in the combiner (pixel shader) department, can only do 1 texture per pass, but with a loopback it can do as much texture layers as fillrate will allow (just like the kyro cards), and with the 2.4Gpixel per second, its not really a problem.
I think maybe you need to check silent hill 3's ps2 graphics before commenting next time :p

They're all in real-time, nothing pre-rendered, not the characters, nor the backgrounds.
Thats ********, PS2 can do FSAA, have deflickering filters, edge AA, etc. Baldurs gate dark alliance use it, F1 grand challenge use it, Zone of the enders 2 used it.. etc. Its not a common feature in ps2 games but the more talented developers are using it successfully.Quote:

But back to these scans, yes, they are too smooth, and that can be explained due that they are scans.. Ink on paper is a natural edge filter, but its not to the point that you get perfect AA in mags that you'll get a big fat stair effect on every edges once in the game..
Half life2, thief 3, Rogue squadron 3, Halo 2, Deus ex 2 and all recent games that were featured in magazines had the same help as GT4 for aliasing.
PS2 has so many hardware misconceptions that it makes me sick.. some of you guys need to hang at beyond3d a bit more ;)
What the PS2 has that's really going for it is embedded DRAM which is blazingly fast.
You never fail to deliver Buggy... esp in the dept of consle hardware knowledge :)
those 16 pixel piplines it has doesnt hurt for texturing and what not either:D
You sure about PS2 having Anti Aliasing? Half of webcomic D-Pad's humor back when PS2 first came out was that Dreamcast could antialias, but PS2 couldnt.
First off if you bothered to look around, the Namco version of Tekken Tag tournament is anti-aliased, the playstation 2 being underpowered is such a load of ****, it has different strengths just like the XBox or Gamecube, its just more difficult to program for, however no one is complaining considering the thing has sold i dont know, 4 times as many units as the other 2 combined?
Yes im sure, and no offense to DC fans but, the fanboys of that console had a LOT of imagination. PS2 got that tag of not having AA because its first gen of games were rather horribly programmed on all technical sides, that doesnt mean the hardware couldnt do it.Quote:

Hey now, I'm not bashing the PS2, it kicks yer *** :)
might i remind you that silent hill uses PRE RENDERED backgrounds.
I recall reading that the PS2 did not have hardware support for Anti Aliasing and that the develpers would have to use edge anti aliasing with colors and software. This dissapointed me at first, however, after I bought it, and played the game "The Bouncer," I was in awe of the anti aliasing used, especially during the cutscenes. Im assuming what I read on IGN and other sites may have been wrong, since I read these when the PS2 was first released. There were refferals to Tekken Tag Tournament, as Tekken Jag Tournament, but this only further proves early games were not designed to be anti aliased by the developers.
Yes, thank you for telling us the obvious, now whats your point? Silent hill 2 is all in real-time, so is Silent hill 3.Quote:

I mean, you can bother arguing all you want, it wont make it true, SH3 is out in europe as we type this, there's a demo available in some mag (OPM i think), peoples have seen and played it, and its all real-time, no pre-rendered backgrounds. In fact, unlike SH2, there's no FMV at all in this one. In SH2 you had FMV scenes when metting with the key characters in the story, like Mary, but in SH3 there's no, 0, zero, z-e-r-o FMV in the whole game (except the intro/ending credit)
Some of you come up with some weird arguments sometimes.. I must of lost some of my reputation from my absense on this board, was way too easy to debunk this.
Here, to put a final nail to the coffin about this argument.

(its not the best movie i wanted to show but i cant seem to find any damn links to a TGS trailer without relying on the shitty fileplanet)
And icing on the cake..

Still anyone willing to come up to me and say that PS2 cant produce great graphics?? anyway? *glares*
Thought so :)
The problem with the PS2 was that is was very difficult to code for.
As it got older the better and better games started to look.
It's a good thing and it's a bad thing, on one hand the games coming out now look a lot better, but the games of launch look like crap.
Anyeays, the gamecube and the xbox are much more powerful. But Gran Tourismo is a killer game, weather or not the graphics are killing the XBOX or not.
Thats the problem with PC gamers, there to much got up in the graphics of games. Trust me, I have been to.
whoa whoa whoa, don't blow the whole thing up and make it an argument. I just wanted to point something out. I remember that it used to be pre-rendered, i'm not sure anymore, i just assumed (dirty word) so after past experiences. But whatever, it's nothing. I haven't brushed up on my console knowledge.Quote:

Of course, how can it not have AA if AA with older PSone games was such a big deal before launch? I'm not sure that counts as "real" AA, but it must count as something right?
No problems, is just seem that i keep getting weird replies the whole damn day, not just on this forum -_-
I'll go sleep i guess, my eyes will pop out if i continue..
Well sure it counts, there's just different levels of AA, the basics one being edge aliasing which n64 had and some titles on psx. This gen is mostly about deflickering filters and multi sampling anti aliasing, which ps2 can do, just maybe not as gracefull as GC or xbox, but its doable and good ps2 programmers are usually using it.Quote:

I think you have it confused with Resident Evil...Quote:

Silent hill on psx also had pre-rendered backgrounds, but since silent hill 2 on ps2 its been real-time
When you say "Pre Rendered", u mean like how Resident Evil's backgrounds are all drawn on and shizzle, right? If so, didnt the original Silent Hill also render in realtime? The camera was just like SH2.
Erhm, you're right. Been a long time since i saw it in motion.
