I prefer IBM drives, but since they sold it to Hitachi... I now buy WD SE only drives :)
For myself and my clients :)
I voted for Maxtor, because that is what I am using in my main rig. in my back up computer I have a WD. By the way Royal Oaks, have you started going through the avatars again.
I use:
160GB Maxtor
60GB Western Digital
13GB Western Digital
I'd buy both brands again. :D
Oops, forgot to say what I like. Out of the 3 Maxtors I have had experience with I have to say they are my favorite. Definitely have stood head and shoulders above the others. My IBM Deathstar was the fastest, but it couldn't stay alive. This Maxtor fluid drive is sweet. However, if I were to buy today I would probably go with a WD because of the warranty.
Also, wolfeman I think the rotation has dwindled down to just the little girl and the pumpkin. I like the nerd guy, but I can't stay away from the Pumpkin for too long. This guy absolutely rules. Anyways, keep the responses coming!
edit: And in my current rig I am using;
Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM fluid bearings
Maxtor 13GB 5400RPM
Please list what you are using at this present time as well. :)
Happy with Western Digital.
You want me to list what I have now?????
Shesh!!!
Home:
10 IBM 120GXP
4 IBM 60GXP
2 WD SE 200GB
4 WD SE 120GB
2 WD SE 80GB
2 Seagate 10k RPM Cheetah
Some other smaller drives, Some of the following too a Maxtor 10GB, Seagate Medalist 6.4GB..
I think that is it :)
I own a WD 40 gig BB and I still use my maxtor 6.4gig. :)
i prefer maxtor drives to the western digitals i've had. the WDSE i have now is faster than my 40GB maxtor (not very noticeable for most things, however), but it's also way louder. i can't even hear the maxtor. an old 3GB WD i have sounds like a crankcase grinding away with no oil, while a 6GB maxtor i have in an old dell machine is nearly silent (and faster :) ). by the time i need a new HD i'll probably give seagate a try.
I've used Maxtor for about a year, I think that's about 7 or 8 drives. Personally I've used 2, but the other were for friends who never complained to me once. Maxtor gets my vote:)
Love my Western Digital 80gig SE. Stupid IBM 45gig hdd, died 2 months ago. NEVER buying an IBM again.
I've used SCSI drives from Seagate exclusively since 1987.
Right now I have a Maxtor 80 gig, and a WD SE 120 gig. Both have been great and I havent had problems with either of them. :)
2 Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 8 30GB 7200RPMs replacing an older 15GB unit of the same name brand. I have very specific and small media/data requirements for my current rig, esp. with 56k. My tendancy toward Maxtor stems from the old addage that Maxtor is most durable/reliable for overclocking projects, whether that remains completly true to this day or not.
Another vote for Maxtor. I have never had a problem (knocks on wood) with their drives
I voted for WD cause I love my Raptor drive, but I also have a Maxtor. I actually like the original Quantums the best. I think they could've gone far beyond today's Maxtors if the development team had not been assimilated.
Same with me. I like maxtors, but I'm getting a raptor, and they're supposed to be sweet.
I have had alota issues with the WD drives so thats why i have been a maxtor fan 4life ;)
Indeed they are. I'm saving up to get a second Raptor for RAID 0. Too bad they're only 36GBs.Quote:

My computer is on a strict Seagate only diet.
I mean, reliable, silent and dirt cheap, it doesn't get much better. :)
I use Western Digital and so far that's pretty much the only brand I'll buy again. I've had troubles with Maxtor drives and until my run of bad luck with them goes away, it'll be WD, maybe Seagate if I feel like it.
I've used every drive on that list except QPS, along with a handful of others. (I've never seen a drive actually made by Lacie. As far as I know, they only OEM drives from other manufacturers. I've had a stack of Lacie drives made by Quantum.) I haven't really developed an allegiance to one manufacturer or another, and have had similar failure rates at different times from each of them. Every manufacturer seems to have had a problem model or two -- particularly IBM recently, and Quantum before they were acquired by Maxtor.
I have:
1 IBM 60GB 60GXP hard drive
1 WD 160GB SE hard drive
Failed on me:
1 IBM 60GB 60GXP hard drive
1 IBM 45GB 75GXP hard drive
I can honestly say that if IBM didnt sell there HD Business, I would be buying the 180GXP :)
I prefer IBM drives to all the other companies out... Yes I know I am sick!
