I, like many people, get nauseous when I play games at 60hz or anything lower than 85 for that matter. Have they fixed BF1942 so that you can play at 85hz and not crash to desktop constantly??? That is the only reason I stopped playing the game.

i know quite a few people that have been playing at 85 for quite a long time now, so its quite probably your video card drivers
Odd, I've been playing at 100Hz for the longest time. Since I got the game in fact, which was after the first patch came out. I never had any issues with crashing to the desktop in BF1942 that I can recall.
Using "reforce" (newest version of refresh lock), I can select pretty much any resolution and BF1942 has never crashed. (winxp pro)
i cant tell a difference between 60 hz and 85 hz
You're just like my friend. He can't notice the difference, while I'm getting a seizure from the flicker.;) :DQuote:

It works fine for me at 85hz
No doubt! After about an hour at that refresh rate my head starts to feel like that one guy in Scanners, where is head blows up. :DQuote:

Some times you can back door that by going directly to the CPL file. Do a search of the drive, making sure to that if they have file types hidden, that you enable the search for them. The file called DESK.CPL is the Control Panel shortcut for your display utility. It will just depend on how hard they locked it down. Once you find it, just double-click on it.Quote:

all you gotta do is change the config file to allow for refresh rates higher than 60hz and you're golden.
Thanks guys! I'll give it a try tomorrow and give an update in this thread. (sorry 'bout the thread hijacking)
i run at 85 fine but the game will crash to the desktop the second time i try to connect to a server
There is a file in the "...Battlefield1942\Mods\bf1942\settings" directory that needs to be changed in order to allow all refresh rates in battlefield. The file is called VideoDefaults or something like that. I think (I am at work so I do not have the game with me). There should be a line that says something like "allowallrefreshrates." The default value is "0" or off. Change that value to "1" or on to allow all refresh rates. Download ReForce from http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/Quote:

If you cannot find the file, I will add another post later when I get home with the exact information.
guys I know all about the file and HOW to get it to use custom refresh rates. For a while I was able to play fine but then, for no apparent reason, I couldn't play longer than a few mintues w/o crashing to desktop. The forums were filled with people having that problem.
Well, maybe i'll give it another go, but since most of you didn't have the problem i have my doubts about it being fixed.
I can tell a difference between 60 and 75, you dont notice the screen flashing? It get kind of annoying, ecspecially if your in the dark.Quote:

Sorry, I should have read more of your post. I thought you could not get BF1942 to load. The crashing to the desktop glitch happens to me on occasion. It has not happened to me since I installed the BF1942 1.4 patch.Quote:

AHH finally! someone with the same issue as me! I have the exact same problem, it gets real annoying too. Also, if you try to change mods while on the custom tab thing, CTD!Quote:

It pisses me off. Anyone have a solution?
Maybe it's just my comp. but when I downloaded the multiplayer demo and tried to load an internet game, the damn thing failed to load completely and it just went back to the desktop. I am running Windows 2K with NT technology. Could that be a problem?
how can i tell what my refresh rate is and how could i change it?
