Apparently the 9700 nps have been seen for 199 dollars at Newegg and other places, if you can find one for that price that's probably the fastest card for your money. Short of that, the 9500 pro is still a good card if you can find one. I don't know of 5600 Ultra pricing yet, so I can't comment.

IMO your best bet is going to be with either a 9500 pro or a 9700 non-pro. Although the availability of the 9500 pro is reduced you can easily find one for under $200. In fact best buy was selling a bunch this past week for $149, which is a good deal.
Now the 9700 non-pro is going to be a very noticable performance increase from a 9500 pro and you can find one of those in the $200 - $220 range.
If I were to buy a card now in the $200 price range, I would go with the 9700np.

Your choices are:
ti4200=$100
9500 pro=$170
9700 non pro=$220
9800 pro=$300 from colossus friend ;)
In my opinion, I would either shell out $300 for a 9800 pro or save and get a ti4200 till directX 9 games come out which at that point a 9700 non pro will drop alot in price as new cards push their way in
9700np ;)
Get a 9700 np for $200 - I can't see them dropping too much in price,
as they probably won't even be sold by the time newer cords come out.
A 4200 is borderline for right now without much future.......
What do you guys think about the Radeon 9600 Pro?? My local COMPUSA is advertising it for $179 this week. Is that a good deal?? How does it comapre to the 9500 and 9700 cards??
Its a tad bit slower than the 9500P BUT if your into overclocking it can be made into a fast card with performance between a 9500p and 9700np. Hope this helps :)Quote:

You wont regret getting the 9700np and as for Tbirds suggestion of a TI4200 sucks. Just my 4 cents worth. Why do I get four cents instead of two? Because I have never been told "that is stupid" "that is wrong" "that is worthless" etc etc etc. (By anyone who knows anything)

9600 is castrated 9500. Don't get the 9600 unless 9700 is unavailable.

The 9500Pro has a 128 bit mem, while the 9700 has a 256. I THINK the
9700 can be o/c'd only with a BIOS hack (don't hold me to this - but I've done this via warp11's BIOS - go to Rage3D).
Again, considering the similar pricing (9500 only 20-25 bucks less than 9700), go w/9700np.
In demanding games with high levels of AA and AF you'll get a heck of a lot better performance with the 9700np than with the 9500p. I'm talking 50-100%+ better performance.
only if your cpu can handle it, Maxvla got the same performance with a 9500 as 9700 cause his cpu is too slow.......imagine 3.6GHz a bottleneck! even a ti4200 is nearly overkill, but its good at 3dmark anyway LOL

Ti4200 overkill? I'll tell ya, I didn't use AA/AF (Ti4200) before
but I sure do now! I even gave a friend a bit of a lesson in AA,
using NASCAR 2003 w/no-2x-4xAA. A CLEAR difference. Not to beat this
to death, but 3DM is a NUMBER. A useful one, I guess, but not necess-
arily related to real world/gaming performance.
As time goes on, it seems that certain items almost achieve 'cult'
status; The Cele 300A., Ti4200, AMD 'B' 1700/2100, and now, the 9700np -
mostly for price/performance.....sorry if I left anything
