I'm not an MSI guy but lots of Peeps here on Sharkys seem to like them. In fact if you could sell the MB/CPU combo that would open the door to getting you a shiny new Abit IC7 MAX3 AND a Prescott...:D
One thing to be aware of though...When AMD released the 1st Thunderbirds they were "slot" design - evryone ran out and bought them, Then AMD went to Socket "A" leaving slot cpu's and mainboards obsolete and practically worthless. You can bet Intel will be changing
sockets very soon after the first Prescotts are released...Now if you planned on keeping the system for 18 mos or two years , no problem.
EDIT: I banged the "enter" key too soon...Quote:

well if the regular ic7-g isnt presscott ready, looks like im getting a new motherboard. crap...
If the regular IC7-G is not Prescott ready then I'm just gonna sit out the first round of Prescott and wait for the new socket.:)
that actually might make more sence... im gonna wait untill presscott is released i think. anybody have any idea when that is?
Does this mean the IC7- MAX II Advance is not prescott ready?
You'd have to fire off an e-mail to Abit tech support on that one...
maybe a bios update? ;)
Although this new Abit IC7-MAX3 sounds impressive and they say its Prescott-ready, I would tend to wonder if it really is. Check out this article:
Intel Prescott to Dissipate More than 100W of Heat
I hope so as I am considering it myself. Just want to be 100% sure. :)
hmm, does anyone know if intel's next unicpu chipset for the next socket willl come with some pci-x support (im not talking about pci express)?
for those of you who have 3.2ghz+ computers.. why buy the first round of prescotts? i mean.. theres going to be a socket change within a few first months.. so its not really worth getting.. if the current motherboards don't support them.. then just wait till the new socket comes out to upgrade your motherboard and cpu.. and for the overclockers.. i would wait till the good stepping cpu's come out anyways to reach those high overclocks! and get the best out of your money
That's what I was thinking. Historically, I've always had to buy a new motherboard when I've upgraded CPU's. Usually, the new chipsets had new features, and you have less headaches that way. I feel pretty good about my IS7 purchase. For the price the price of a IC7-Max3, I could buy two motherboards. So, when moving to that new CPU, just suck it up and get that new motherboard as well.Quote:

anyone have any idea what the price of the ic7 max3 will be? the ic7-g is currently $188 over at newegg. will the price of the ic7-g drop a bit when the max3 is released?
Looks like Im getting a new board! :D And hopefully it plays nice with my Corsair :(.
