Maybe some of you video card tweakers out there could put together a list of things to do before I run 3D Mark. I am trying to get to 10K just for the hell of it. :D
My Retail Radeon 8500LE last turned in 7886 3DMarks

I believe pyro has a 3dmark guide somewhere...look in his sig...but I couldn't tell you anything...I've only ran 3dmark once when I got my 9500 pro and that was just to see the bloated and slow mother nature test...
Yeah Pyros guide is pretty much the best reference for video card benchmarking.

My top 10 would be:
1. FSB as high as possible with highest possible mem divider.
2. RAM timings as tight as possible
3. Vid card clocks as HIGH as humanly possible
4. For Intel, fresh XP with Dx8.1 and without SP1. For AMD, Win2K with SP2 and DX8.1
5. Clean install with only chipset drivers, Vid Drivers, OCing software, and 3DMark, nothing else.
6. Disable unneeded services like Indexing, etc.
7. Run tests 1 at a time adjusting clocks for each test.
8. After starting the 3DMark app, set it to "Real Time" priority.
9. Make sure Monitor is set to 1024x768x32 at 60hz
10. Go to Performance page under System properties and set everything to max performance.
11. Set Direct3D options all to max performance under display properties.
Well it's 11 but that would be my Top11 tips. :)

Wow thats a lot of things to do to hit such a high mark..... Wish I had the money like a lot of you guyz to do that :) LOL but here's a quick question has ANYONE made a shuttle XPC into a frankenbeast ??? I'm thinking of getting a 3.2CGHz Intel P4 with 1gig of RAM with a ATI 9700 AIW card with SATA 160gig Seagate drive... But dang you guyz put your systems through hell. How does OCing effect the chips and MB and RAM's life span? I mean don't you guyz worry about things going out if your playing your system @ a LAN party? Dang but good luck with OCing you guyz got ballz of brass.

I'd be more worried if the puny 200W PSU in those Shuttles can handle that much...:confused:
Most people aren't having problems with 3.2 P4 and 9800 Pro's in the Shuttles. But I was still skeptical and got the LanBoy with a 350W PSU. I'm not disappointed.Quote:

Definitely, that could be the difference between 18786 and 19K ::looks at sig::
Why do you prefer Win2k for an AMD system? Has this been proven to run better on this OS? Just curious. Also, Why not DX9?Quote:

I reccomend stretching and drinking lots of fluids, running 3Dmark can take alot out of you:p

I'm only at 374/339 and 3172 and I'm getting 18700...:confused:

I was thinking about changing the order inwhich the benchmark runs... I hear it helps.. So I want to do that and possible break 21.5 :)
Don't get me started!!;) I didn't really do a "proper" test because I ran all the tests consecutively and had all the other proccess's(sp?) that normally run in the background w/XPpro. Could that be why??Quote:

I re-ran the tests and got a 21356 but the 1024x768 res was no longer an option for me??

I ran the tests backwards, Nature, Lobby, Dragothic then Car Chase. Could be why my car chase is crappy.
how would you run them in a different order?? also, why would this effect how they perform?
Well you go to select tests and just select one at a time in whatever order you want to go in. This helps since as you go through the run, memory is taken up as is system resources, so it's better to do the more resource intensive tests first.

If you leave the settings on default it should default to 1024x768
That is why your car chase is crappy. I bet you saw increases in the other tests though. On average I pick up 10-15 fps in the low detail dragon and lobby, but drop 10 fps in low car with this order. It's still worth it because my end score is better.Quote:

Steps:
1. Uninstall 3dmark
2. Install a real game
3. Benchmark that game
4. Realise that artifical benchmarks are inherently flawed
5. Drink a beer
6. Take a nap
7. Defrag your computer
8. Put a hot-pocket in the toaster
9. Play your new game
10. Eat hot-pocket (WARNING: remove from toaster first)
