You know wallpaper robs system resources right? I wouldn't recomend using it if you want your rig to be higher performance. I run no wallpaper and no screen saver. it saves a little bit of ram.
I didnt know that. Thx once again Ranger:)
No prob. You get your system squared away and running as fast as it can go and then come back and see me and we will start really tweaking your setup :D You will be a 3DMark whore before you know it.
I'm already there LOL. Atleast the 3D mark Whore part.:D I got the free version of 3D mark 03. But not great scores yet. Used it on my old HP alot. Best I got was a 1003 hehe. Have yet to use it on this system.Quote:

Well, if you live in the REAL world and your life isn't dictated by "3D Mark scores", www.themexp.org has some really nice, professional looking wallpapers. Also has some new themes, screen savers and boot screens for Win XP, although I'm not really into that.
But c'mon, the affect wallpaper and a screensaver has on the performance of today's modern machines anwyhere OUTSIDE OF 3DMARK is so infintesimally small it's not worth mentioning.
Well I suppose if you had read this post and his other posts you would know he is trying to make a performance rig and he does do 3DMarks, maybe you wouldn't have flamed me for no apparant reason. Read any guide about making a gaming rig and it will tell you to get rid of the wallpaper and screen saver.Quote:

I read his post, the first post of the thread, asking where to get wallpaper. I responded with an answer. He said nothing at all about "building a performance rig", and even if he had, the question was not "will it affect my rig?", it was "Where can I get wallpaper".Quote:

Simple as that.
Just tried to shed a little light on the subject. You're just not gonna suffer any framerate loss in any game if your desktop says "Windows XP!" on it. Let's be reasonable.
I sense hostility :)
He didn't sound like he was flaming you.
It's all good :)
Heh, man that was a good laugh. OMG, i gotta go remove that wallpaper so i can get o.oooo1 more fps in 3dmark OMFG. Guys, really, stop living by it. Its just a benchmark. WHy would you dedicate a whole computer to it. But anyway...
www.themexp.org (as was said, and its a great source for themes and bootscreens as well)
www.deskmod.com
www.deviantart.com
I second that, they are great.:)Quote:
This may help a bit.:)

So guys if I put one from digitals site on my 2.4C overclocked, 1 gig of hyper-x 3500, and 9800 pro, it will be ok correct, and have hardly if any performance hits on when I'm gaming?
I don`t think, wallpaper has much of a effect at all, but you can always disable it before 3D Marking and enable it after wards. As far as it effecting gaming, run your game with the wallpaper on and then off and see if you can tell a differance. Now IMO a screen saver running in the background does make a differance.
5x has nice wallpaper.
Meh, Use a wallpaper, its kinda like bill gates saying he doesn't want to buy a hot dog because its going to make him poorer.
You have a computer for a reason.
To me it seems crazy to have a high end p4 system and be worried about a wallpaper slowing your computer down. I have a 1.7 old 423 p4 and use a wallpaper no problem. Come on guys get real here.
For wallpapers I always go to digitalblasphemy as well but I was hoping to check out some other sites. I will have to check out some of the recommendations.
How could you have a screen saver running in the background while you're gaming? That defeats the purpose.Quote:

You really think that a 300k image is going to make a dent in a quarter or half gig of ram? The image is .06% of the total RAM, hardly seems like that would make a difference. At that point you might as well disable all windows themes, mouse pointers, etc. Honestly though, 3dmark isn't a sport where the winner gets a trophy or a million bucks...
Anyways, I use webshots to rotate my background periodically, I find it to be pretty cool though some will argue that it takes up some resources, but you can always kill it before you play a game or anything. I generally just search the web or kazaa for images of things I'd like on my background, planes, cars, movies, etc.
Lol let me chime in that I don't see the point of not using a screensaver or wallpaper.
I also don't understand what people could possibly be fascinated with by 3dmark, I am only interested in real world performance.
