OMG my radeon8500 does 300/320 speeds from 250/275 stock!

I was quite supprised too! I did get nervous when at 340 on the ram, in the point sprite test it erupted into colors! I quickly exited and clocked it back to stock, but the artifacts were still there even in 2d and quite colorful checkerboard like squares with colored dots and lines all over! I rebooted and it was fine! then I tried 330 on the ram and 10 seconds into nature it did it again! I couldnt see a thing but dancing colored scrambling all around in line patterns! 300/320 no artifacts though. oh at 330 in dragothic there were a few blue dots on the roofs of the houses too. anyway I still have much tweaking to do, it needs to be set on performance and stuff :) time to get 13k now..........:cool:

can anyone help me tweak by lowering the lod bias? with nvidia cards and rivatuner I can set mipmap to 3 and make nature and everything else really blurry but I gain a few hundred marks. however it doesnt work on ati cards. any prog for ati cards that will do? I got ragetweak but I dont see anything about lodbias and my mipmap is already to high performance. I am getting 11.6k marks now, that is sad! my nature is only 55fps as well and the ti500 eats it in everything except car chase. I should be near 13k on that 8500 since she does 300/320 clocks man!

no the 8500's will not hit 13K. You will hit 12K max!! I could only mustard 11.2K on mine at 300/285. And rivia tunner should work fine for ATI cards as well:)

1. I told you that you would not get it to 330/330.
2. I told you to use the profile for 3DMark in Rage3DTweak already.

How hot are your RAM chips and core HSF getting under load?

*Another thing-this "special edition" crap you gave me the other day is just that...crap-it came clocked at LE speeds for God's sake.

With ATI cards, pushing the core yields larger gains than the memory.:) I suggest you pop off that crappy HSF and put something better on there.*

(italics) Weren't you the one fairly recently constantly accusing people who were getting good 3Dmark scores of running with artifacts and so forth to get that score, and you're doing exactly the same?

The 8500 was never that great a performer in raw framerate, but it does offer good image quality, try running both cards at 16xAF (or whatever the maximum the Ti500 offers) and examine the performance hit and quality.

300/320 and I have not done a v mod yet either. My ram almost did 330 but it artifacted like made 10 seconds into nature. a V mod should get me to 330-340 easy. As for the core, it doesnt even feel hot, just warm when I touch the back of the card. A v mod should get the core at least 10MHz higher. I will do a v mod later on, in no rush now, wanna try that bad boy on some games for now and see if I can break 13k before a v mod. as for le speeds, the core was le speed, but the ram was not and by special edition its 3.3ns ram dude, man even my 3.3ns ram on my special edition(not se "slow edition") only does 295(590 in sdr) as for 3dmark profile, I need to find where it is, if you can help me out?

stock ram was 333MHz, must be 64 bit ddr :confused: and people have gotten it past 400MHz too

Than its a MX460 or a rare MX480 I have heard of because MX420 are not DDR.

see my sig, the mx440 eats my mx420. another option is powerstrip thinks all cards have ddr when my mx420 is sdr. so just divide 366 by 2 and its really running 183MHz, not such a good oc

What's with everyone hammering on TBird even worse now? I mean... of course, when he says something naive, you can get at him, lol, but why worry about him doing this stuff? i admit you definately are a nut case with older cards, but just like your sig spouting your overclockedness (2.47 gig), no one knows two things, what is your everyday running MHZ/FSB (still a mystery and unfair when posting to a newb, they think you are running that speed, which you are not on a day to day basis) and the 3DMark scores you have been attaining, are they clean or????????????????????

[SIZE=4]There are no "special/slow editions" of the 8500. Retail, LE, LELE. What I was getting at is that since your core was LE speed...the card is an LE. Don't argue it, it actually makes everything look more impressive.:)

If you are making everything "really blurry"-don't compare an ATI against an Nvidia card. Your test bed would OBVIOUSLY be in favor of the Nvidia card.
His 2.47ghz o/c was not stable under Prime95. I *think* it crashed after five minutes.

I am not sure how high the fps will be, it could be as low as 5fps and thats something everyone wants to hear on my hardware anyway but maybe I have underestimated my rigs powers :D

no artifacts, those actually hurt performance and all those guys getting high scores make it twice as blurry as me and do other tweaks few of us even know

try 5 seconds :eek: additionally, prime95 doesnt mean much to me except hardcore stability and besides Ill probably run xp2700 speeds or so for everyday use, havent decided yet but im runing 2GHz at 166fsb for now.

Five seconds of Prime95, but it could run 3DMark??? Shows what kind of a program 3DMark is for stress testing. It would have crashed if you ran it in software mode though.:)

Why do you have to add the part about my card being slower than yours? Its quite obvious!:eek: The pencil trick didn't work for me either, so I wiped it off...meaning I did this overclock on an UNDERVOLTED card.

I should try that then. I remember getting prime95 stable to about 1.8GHz but 3dmark ran fine at 2.09GHz when I had stock cooling. My guess is ill have to run xp2700 speeds, give or take 50MHz for prime95 to be stable. Just because mine ocs like a champ and to anyone else getting godly oc's it may not be 100% stable, but 99% stable :) :D

I did not try the pencil trick and your card is slower than mine, but I am not dissing your card, its your cpu that you need to work on, much more important than worrying about the card anyhow.


also yours came at 230 core------------->290 thats +60MHz
mine came at 250 core------------------->300 thats +50MHz


Thus your core overclocks better and as for your ram, its not 3.3ns so I am not supprised. actually 320MHz is nice even for 3.3ns. I wish they actually used decent ram on ti4200s :mad: I hate it when the ram on mx440s, ti500s and radeon8500s overclock way more than ti4200s ram! why use good ram on slower cards? :confused: :mad:
as for undervolted, probably by just a bit and its the core limiting you, not the voltage seeing the mod did zilch

I checked with a multimeter, both the core and RAM are undervolted when compared to a Retail 8500.:mad:

Like you said though, the CPU is what I should work on...and I plan on doing just that with a Barton in Dec.:)

What speed are you running the 2000+ you have on a daily basis, not what its ultimate clockage is when benching and pumping 2.2 through the core???

First, I am just curious, and second, again I allude to your sig, it is misleading at best, especially for newbs that look to these nuggets of info. Heck, I look at this info just to get a feel for what other people are running in comparison to my clockage.

And, no matter what you say, if Prime dies in 5 seconds, it is not stable by any definition of the word.

Hi, I'm one of those lucky ones who got the Retail Radeon 8500 128MB, which runs at a stock 275/550. I've seen some impressive OC's coming from 8500s LE's, including yours. If I have a retail 8500 128, how much can I expect from this chip OCing?, I put it in 320(Memory) and I got artifacts. Any advice?. I should be getting better speeds, i suppose.

your ram probably is not 3.3ns like mine is. lower it to 310 and see how it goes, also oc the core up 5MHz at a time and be careful!
