blah.. bought audigy2, now there is the audigy2nx

So.. anyone want to make me feel better about buying an audigy2? I was planning to buy the $400 6.1 650 series today when I saw on creative's website the audigy2 nx with 7.1 support. Of course the regular hype was said about "for a better, totally immersive listening experience" and stuff of that nature..

Just tell me there's not much difference so I can stop feeling like I'm behind the times with having just installed my audigy2 last night. lol.. I guess 6.1 should be good enough for gaming anyway.. and movies should still sound good.. i would hope anyway.

I was looking at the creative list and figured I'd buy the Creative MegaWorks® THX® 6.1 650D. No idea if the 650D is better than the 650, but figured what the heck.. sounds like a revision, let's go with that one.

Oh, also does anyone know off hand how long the speaker wires are? Wheather the satellites connect the the sub ( i would think ) or where ever. If I want to wrap a wire behind my desk, under the bed, along the way, and then mount the left rear in the top corner of my bedroom, can I do this out of the box? I really don't like slicing wires up.. it's messy, makes me feel like I'm damaging my product, and if I need to return them for replacement for an unrelated issue I would hate to see what the manufacturer says. Also of course sound quality - is it effected when you extend speaker wire? Anyway, how much slack do these things give? My current klipsch 4.1's really can't be positioned due to rather pathetic lengths of wire.

Don't worry, I just bought a Audigy 2 oem today even though I knew about the A2 NX. The A2 NX looks like it's made for laptop users. Have you seen how small the external unit is? I believe that the Megaworks line uses standard speaker wire, so you can always buy more if it's too short.

do you usually feel inadequate over small things such as this? is it me or does it seem there is a lot more insecure people out there? no offense to you dude, but this has kinda gotten on my nerves as of late. in fact last week i rear ended this guy on purpose because he was sitting at this green light, trying to turn the corner only he was lurking out ever so slowly to make sure no one was coming, in other words he was making a career out of the turn...luckily my liscense plate is on the back of my car and heavily obstructed by a raiders plate frame. sorry for the rant, i just felt the urge to vent...you usually go to jail when you do it in the real world.

back to question, i don't think it matters, in fact...i KNOW it doesn't mater. i'm still using a cheap old sblive value and have no complaints..your audigy2 is smokin, HL2 isn't gonna sound any better on the newer version... i mean, can you even hear gunfire in 7.1?

I won't even start on the first half of this statement and how seriously demented it is. The second part of what you said I'll respond to. The Audigy 2 will show noticable difference in sound.
HL2 may or may not be encoded for surround sound. If the designers of it intend for it to be a competitive game, they'll take advantage of surround sound, as all current fps games have. 7.1 uses 2 rear centers, 2 surrounds, 2 fronts and a center. This would offer much better positioning, considering in ideal situations you should have your screen be a moderate distance in front of you, while your surrounds should be closer to you but overhead about a foot or two, so to envlope you in the sound. Under this principle, the 7.1 speakers would have good and noticable impact.

Further more, not everyone only uses their computer for games. Many of us watch movies on our computers and enjoy an equivlent to cinemas in our home.

i guess ive never listened to anything else, maybe i'll try the onboard sound on my nforce2 when it gets here...it says

MCP - Provides 6-channel AC'97 Audio

is that any better? maybe ill look into a turtle beach or something..

crawling eye - it hink the original HL had surround, maybe it was 3d positional? where you would turn around and the sound would go from in front of you to behind you and sound like it... dont most cards support this to some extent anyway?

then when the light turns green step on the little pedal on the right, the one that propels you forward... i guess im just tired of dealing with idiot drivers, i've decided to run into people. you know when your driving with someone and the driver says "i should have hit him!" ? i guess i went one step further, glad im fully insured, not paying through the nose for nothing...ima use it. now my state has decided to give liscenses to illegal aliens, so i have my work cut out for me.

I also hate people who don't pay attention at green lights but I use this device called...a horn.;) Usually it's just a little "beep" to let them know what's going on. If they don't move, then the horn gets held down till they start moving.:D Then as you pass them you stare at them, etc.;)

soupnazi - i know it's uncool to do what i did, but in a large city the idiot to normal person ratio goes up exponentially. at the next light theres another and another...u get fed up with it..oh i disconnected my horn, there was a short somewhere lol, maybe in my head.

yeah it would but when your all "road raged" out your not thinking about all that stuff, then when you are thinking about it your thinking "hey it's gonna be so worth it" lol! but you gotta remember, if you make the slightest of any type of contact with another car the driver is likely to fall out the car door grabbing his/her neck yelling whiplash.
so what do you know of the quality etc of that particular onboard sound? i'm wondering what the cpu utilization difference will be, i think the live value uses like 1% if i remember a review, i know the live value is pretty old now but i always thought it was still superior to onboard sound... especially c-media, junk!

I didn't see any mention of it, which probably means you are getting the REALTEK version which is just a little better than AC'97. Basically you are better off with a SBLive in that case. Or you could get an Audigy1/2 and just be happy knowing you have a good soundcard.

For gaming, the Audigy 2 oem is the card you want. For music/dvd's, you'll want the M-Audio Revolution.

I don't know about that, for actual music you have to consider that M-Audio makes cards for their ins, not outs. They're a recording card, not a music production card.

I'd assume they have relatively good outputs but assuming that they're great for music is just more of an assumption. I think a lot of people get confused with these things easily, m-audio makes great 'audiophile' cards; however, they are not known for their outputs, more-so their inputs.

Wow... P-S-Y-C-H-O, not only is that the most idiotic thing I've ever heard, but posting it on the internet for the world to see, might be even more stupid... I'm not quite sure yet.
