The 9600 XT package ( with half life 2 ) is very tempting...I have a ti4200 ( 64 MB ) vid card - do you guys think it's worth the upgrade ...or will both cards perform about the same ?

well the 9600xt will be faster than a 9600pro.... which is already alot faster than a ti4200......
(espcially in terms of shader and aa/af performance)
In one word...Yes.
hmmm....yes eh ? well that says it all...guess I should buy me one : )
By the looks of it, it will be considerably faster than a 9600Pro, which is already considerably faster than a Ti4200. Plus with DX9 support Half-Life 2 will benefit.
Should be alot faster.:)
This is the one I would get!!!! ASUS RADEON 9600XTQuote:

Nice looking heatsink..........
I have a ti4200 128mb card and replaced it with the 9600 pro. Let me tell you that it is not "considerably faster". In fact the only difference I noticed was that the 9600 was better in AA...but since the ATI seemed to have considerably more tearing in games I can see where it needed it. I returned it as it was definitely not worth the money. You're better off getting a 9700 pro or a 5900 np.
exactly. I dont know why you guys get all excited about a 9600 pro, its slower than a ti4200 without aa/af
OK, I didn't notice that it sucked that bad. I must've been thinking about the 9500Pro. But still, it is faster than the Ti4200 most of the time with/without AA/AF. It's not worth replacing a Ti4200 for one, though.
thats is a wicked looking heatsink, on the Asus card...lol . I'll prolly buy directly from ATI . They sell the 9600 XT with half life 2 for 300 $ Can.
I hate when people complain about tearing...tearing occurs for one and only one reason - you don't have vsync on.
lol! :DQuote:

is this comparing the ti4200 at stock speeds or OC'd ?
All of the XT cards will come with Hald life 2 in the box or a voucher as Half life 2 is delayed! Also keep in mind it may only be the single player version.Quote:

If I was you I would wait, keep saving your money & buy the 9800 Pro. The 9800 Pro is by far better that the ti4200 & may go down in price by the end of the year...

I don't think so a Ti4600 is faster but a 4200 and 9600pro would be about the same. If the 9600Pro is overclocked or has AA & AF on even the 4600 is slower let alone a Ti4200.Quote:

Now if we had a DX9 benchmark than things get real ugly for any GF4 Ti card vs a 9600 Pro.
199 US = 270 Can. So really its not that much more. You just weren't thinking about the currency conversion. Only 30$ canadian difference which is like 20$ US.
IIRC, ATi says that the 9600XT will be faster than the 9700Pro.
if that is true, then it's definitely quite a bit a faster than the Ti4200, and will eat(tm) any gf4 with AA/AF.
no kidding. the only thing a ti4200 will eat is a 9600 pro, 9500 NON pro or fx5600 ultra besides the obvious ti500, radeon8500, 9200 :p
In what? Just 3dmark01? What reviews are you looking at?Quote:

I wouldnt go and say its slower but about the same speed at LOW res and NO AA/AF, depending on what game you play. Newer games the 9600P seems faster. When you start turning up the res, AA,AF and use games with newer game engines the 9600P is faster. And when you do play older games the frame rate is high enough for both cards so no problem there. Also the 9600P has DX9 features while the GF4 doesnt. And lastly the 9600P core is one hell of an overclocker.
You gotta forgive T'bird, his enthusiasm for 3DMark clouds his judgment at times. :p The 9600XT would be a fast lower mid-range card, faster than a Ti4200 imo, but how would it stack up against the Ti4600 in DX8 games? Can't tell, the XT's got the advantage of being a DX9 card, so it's got 'longer legs' if ya know what I mean.;) :)Quote:

I dont give a crap about "3D mark" or "aquamark 3 " scores. Every computer system is different, and the same graphics card in one machine will give different scores in another. The numbers are almost useless.
I play a lot of the newer games, I have no doubt that a ti4200 AND an ATI 9600 XT will run older directX 8.0 games just fine.
I'm interested in playing half life 2/Doom 3/Thief 3 , and I was essentially wondering if I'd see much of a diff between my ti4200 and a 9600 XT ....mostly all I've seen so far, is speculation . I'm sure the ATI card will outperform the ti4200...but would the differences be noticeable ? I usually play @ 1280 X 720 res, with 2X AA on. The ti4200 runs most current games pretty well, in fact it's a very fast graphics card...some of the newer games ( bf 1942 ) tend to lag at times , but not much.
The 9600XT should do as well, if not better than the Ti4200. Newer DX9 games shouldn't be a problem for the 9600XT, so I'd say get it over the Ti simply 'cause it should do well in both DX8/9 games. ;) Just an opinion, though, don't start flaming now.:p :DQuote:

I really do apprieciate everyone's opinion !
Should be interesting to see some real benchmarks on the 9600 XT card...I've seen plenty on the 9800XT ....beautiful card, but totally unaffordable. :(
If you want a video card that will, give you a noticeable differance in games, get the 9800np. Just my 2 cents, I know you didn`t mention it.
